ABOUT ME
Living in Pittsburgh right now, but we'll see where I am in a month... I just finished my master's degree in Library Science, so I'm in the market for a librarian job--preferably one where I get to work with kids. Otherwise, I love to read, hike, swim, nap, send letters and postcards, bake pies, and cook.
PHILOSOPHY
After doing 2 years of AmeriCorps, I've become dedicated to serving my community--wherever that may be! Specifically, I've focused on public library services, making sure that the general public (even more specifically, youth) have free and open access to their world's and community's resources.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I finally have the opportunity to host, and I typically surf when I'm strapped on cash and need to travel for interviews.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I surfed with a family in Pittsburgh when I was looking into Pitt's library science grad program, and they were absolutely wonderful and welcoming and generous. The woman explained to me why she hosts: She believes that as long as she can provide a welcoming and safe place for young people to stay, she will attract good karma so that her own daughters will have safe places to stay whenever they need to travel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I moved from Oregon to Vermont, I saw the Rocky Mountains up close and personal, which was absolutely awe-inspiring.
Teach, Learn, Share
From my degree in Library Science, I've (hopefully) become more adept at finding random resources. For example, my colleague was recently an audience member on The Colbert Show, and Colbert sent her back with homework: find an out-of-print picture book from his childhood. He could remember pigs playing baseball and boating on a lake in a cave. I tag-teamed this search with my colleague, and we found the book: The Mellops Go Spelunking!
