About Me
Hi!
My name is Maddie and I am a twenty-something living in the South East of England. I currently work as a dance and cheerleading instructor as well as assisting children with Special Educational Needs. I graduated from Durham University in 2023 with a degree in Social Anthropology.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Me and my best friend Ellie are off an a huge adventure to the Land Down Under in January! We were recommended to check out Couchsurfing as an exciting and budget friendly way to socialise and get to know an area as we road trip up the East Coast. I've previously stayed in rooms in an airbnb and have found staying with a host very useful as it's great to get recommendations from people who are local to the area and know it best.

Music, Movies, and Books
I can summarise my taste in music best by this statement: I like every song apart from the ones I don't like. I have a broad taste in music and enjoy both the old and new. Going to concerts and festivals are my favourite things to do and they often drain my finances! My top artists of the year are however:
- Chappell Roan
- The Last Dinner Party
- Billie Eilish
- Declan McKenna
- Lana Del Rey
- Rachel Chinouriri
- Bombay Bicycle Club
- Blossoms
My favourite films are a mix of those that are sentimental and wholesome with others that have an element of thrill and excitement and depth. I also really love going to the cinema and this year my cinema favourites were: Challengers, The Apprentice, and Heretic. In general, some of my favourite films are: Promising Young Woman, Parasite, Singin' in the Rain, Amelie, About Time, The Parent Trap. Some favourite T V series are Fleabag, The Haunting of Hill House, Breaking Bad, I May Destroy You and Bad Sisters.
As for reading I really love an informative book and as my degree is in anthropology I love to read books on human nature, culture and biology. My favourite book at the present is Humankind- A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman. I find it both fascinating and uplifting when the world feels gloomy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
That's a hard one! One of the most memorable places I've ever been to so far is Lake Como, Italy. It was hard to believe that some of the views in front of me were real as they were just so unbelievably picturesque. Another, although such a cliché, is New York City. I've just never been somewhere with so much energy and scale and just being there was invigorating. A couple more honourable mentions are the Italian Dolomites and the Amalfi Coast.
