About Me

Hi! My name is Maddie Hosack and I am a second-year English major at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Summer of 2016 I will be out of the United States for the first time as my friend Harper and I travel around parts of Europe for a few weeks and I'm unbelievably excited to meet people in every city and get to know them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My friend Harper and I are travelling through parts of Europe for a couple weeks this summer and really want to connect with locals and get a feel for the cities we're staying in - what it's like to live there all the time - rather than just staying in a hostel or Airbnb. It'll be my first time to Europe (!!!) and I would love to get the chance to meet people that live in these cities and really feel like a local rather than a visitor. We would love to make some friends on our journey!

Interests

I love to read and run - I'm trying to read at least sixty books in 2016 and just ran my first half marathon in March. I'm also learning the basics of web design (mostly HTML and CSS) and have a blog that I've designed where I review the books that I've read this year!

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of music and some of my favorite bands/artists are Alabama Shakes, Banks, Bon Iver, Daughter, Drake, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Florence + the Machine, Gregory Alan Isakov, Imogen Heap, Lord Huron, Kaleo, Ryn Weaver, and Vaults. I also love classical music and used to be able to ply the piano!
My favorite books are the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Alice in Wonderland, and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, although I read a ton for both school/pleasure and love to give book recommendations to my friends. Harper (my travel companion) and I are trying to read at least one novel that's set in the cities that we're traveling to.
I'm not a huge movie person but some of my favorite movies include the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Spirited Away.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I completed my first half marathon in March in two hours and eight minutes and crossing that finish line was a pretty incredible experience.
