About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I have miles and miles to go, before I sleep!

NEWS !! FREE EVENT!!

Everyone is invited to my public talk/presentations on the 10th of April, 2015 in Clear Lake/Houston.

You may find the details here :

https://www.couchsurfing.com/events/606187

ABOUT ME

Am (as we all are) always travelling, if not physically, at the subconscious levels.

Love listening to Sam Harris, the late fabulous Christopher Hitchens, Susan Jacoby, Eugenie Scott, Dan Barker, Jerry Coyne, Sean Carroll, David Silverman etc to name just a few.

My article on genocides: http://thedailycougar.com/2007/10/19/guest-commentary-genocide-awareness-crucial-for-prevention/

my blog : http://alismac123.wordpress.com ------------------------------------------------------- since October 2014, volunteer at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

NOTE: I would be happy to give a tour of the Paleontology Exhibit Hall at the HMNS to anyone interested!

since 2008, been volunteering with the Houston chapter of the American Red Cross's Disaster Assistance Team. There is a huge need for trained volunteers & I strongly recommend as many people getting trained as possible.

in 2007, was a liaison volunteer between the Holocaust Museum of Houston and the Univ of Houston to organize talks by Holocaust survivors or their family members to create awareness about genocides, past and present.

Actively involved in NASA's Education and Public Outreach to speak abt science, evolution etc to the general public.

Work as a research scientist at the Univ of Houston, trying to understand microbial evolutionary dynamics etc - without losing my sense of sanity

PHILOSOPHY

Respecting others is the only way to respect oneself!

Adventures are vital to maximize our potential and increase the chances of discoveries !

so lets go on adventures - which could be physical or simply intellectual, introspective and spiritual (in a non-religious, non-denominational way)

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By hosting, meeting up/helping visiting surfers, sharing ride with those who need one, and CSing.

I would be happy to show visitors around town - when am free - feel free to shoot me an email.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have met several couchsurfers, couchsurfed and hosted surfers!

In the beginning, I was skeptical about the concept - but once i got over the initial skepticism, it has been smooth - so far!

CSurfing helps to get to know people better, understand ppl from different perspectives, their thought processes and thus helps me evolve too!

there are tons of things i just do not know about, and this is a great way of learning and sharing

Interests

Music, sports, reading, travelled a bit - been to Denmark, Spain, Germany in Europe, Canada and the US in North America.

I still have plenty of places to cover right here in the US.

check these out - the world's most under-recognized music composer!

Music, Movies & Books

Music - anything BUT hiphop/rap (not a big fan of those genres!)

Movies - tons of them - ask me!

Books - ALISTAIR MACLEAN - the greatest pulp fiction author whose books kindled my love for the English language. But I have so many to list, the space wont be sufficient

One Amazing Thing I've Done

The most amazing things I have seen are very personal/spiritual - the strange feeling of melancholy that sets in during a weekend afternoon is an inner calling for private mulling over the self -thats one example!

Recently, I discovered the fossil 'Denazinosuchus' -70 million years old -my first fossil discovery on my first paleontological field trip with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Teach, Learn, Share

Am a bigtime passionate fan of the music of Indian composer MAESTRO. ILAIYARAAJA.

India's RENAISSANCE COMPOSER nonpareil and avant-garde, versatile, composer genius extraordinaire !

What I Can Share With Hosts

Simple meals - vegetarian - nice conversation when I am around - in a relaxed setting and sharing what little I know of Houston and of life !

Countries I've Visited

Canada, Denmark, Germany, Spain

Countries I've Lived In

India, United States
