I'm looking for ways to get happy. I've got a card here which says: the only way to happiness is happiness. That sounds so suspiciously easy, but maybe it's true.

I really like brown bread with cheese, and liquorice. I like good risotto, and pancakes. I like playing cardgames. I like to sing.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live on the second floor by a landlady, just a street away from the city center. I have no couch, but I do have a spare mattress and plenty of blankets. Right now I don't have a full-time job, so I can help you get to know the place, if you want. Btw, I'm more an Amsterdam-fan than an Utrecht-fan.

Movies, theatre, music (singing - I sing in a choir that sings Anglican-like Evensongs twice a month, further I am an amateur-choir-conductor), politics, journalism, art (visiting museums), architecture, nature and of course good food.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Movies: As long as it is enjoyable. Some favourites: All About Eve, Groundhog Day, Jésus de Montréal, Punch-Drunk Love, Singin' in the Rain, Some Like it Hot, The Constant Gardener, The Truman Show, Y aura-t-il de la neige à Noël? An interesting script is essential for an enjoyable movie. So Star Wars/Spiderman/Sheltering Sky/Tim Burton-films don't interest me.

Music: Tom Waits is a big-time favourite, further I discover a lot of classical music (Scarlatti, Howells, Canteloube, Josquin, Haydn, Purcell, Händel, Hesperión XX, Stravinsky) via conducting course and previously via my boyfriend. Jazz is also a favourite (Bud Powell especially), but I also like to discover strange techno-corners like Aphex Twin or weirdies like The Moldy Peaches.
Other loves: The Roches, They Might be Giants, Manu Chao, Joni Mitchell, Oum Kalsoum, B 52's, Burt Bacharach, Dolly Parton, Stan Kenton & Kurt Weill.

Books: I'm currently reading 'The Perfectionist', about French chef Bernard Loiseau. I read quite a lot of plays. Am also a big Wikipedia- and encyclopedia-reader. Play-favourites: Tsjechov and Shakespeare ofcourse, Thomas Bernhard, Roland Topor, Frank Wedekind, Wallace Shawn, Sophocles, Ödön von Horváth.

Further I'm a big museum- and architecture-buff. I always like to see interesting buildings and can hang around in museums for many hours.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I saw some beautiful sunsets in Perú and the red sand of northern Spain. I walked through San Sebastián in Spain. I've seen and heard the 'Musician wren' and the 'Nightingale wren' in the Peruvian rainforest. I have played in the snow with a guy who had never seen nor touched snow before. I saw Cintra (Portugal), covered in mist. I have seen an eclips. I've recently seen a concert by Leonidas Kavakos and Enrico Pace, and an equally amazing concert by Ceramic Dog.

I would love to meet people that conduct.
I would love to meet people that can explain mathematics to me.
I would love to meet people that can help me with taste-differences, for instance with wine or coffee.
I would love to meet fellow Tom Waits freaks.
I would love to meet people who know about trees and birds and plants and other biological stuff.
