Escaping the 'American Dream' to actually live the dream!
It's amazing where life takes you. I just finished an eight-year career as a US Naval Officer and have decided to take my life away from the cookie-cutter one which finds a new job, new town to live in, yada-yada. So I am going to tramp the world, whereever that takes me, whether it's moving on from Europe to hunt for crocs down under, frolic in the mountains in Nepal, or to dance with latinas in South America. I have the most incredible children who will always be the loves of my life, near or far. Being a father is a blessing and watching them grow up amazes me. I am adventurous and seek to push the limits and want to be someone my children can look up to one day.
Life is not about where I have been or where I am going - it happens now. The past is something to embrace, good or bad, and the future is something that provides direction and nothing else. Both do not exist. They are only memories and ideas. The reason I press this is because human nature puts individuals through so much trauma over things that have happened and so much anxiety on the concerns of our future. My trip this year which I started in September is about letting go and embracing uncertainty. It is about extinguishing my grasp on possessions and trading it in for experiences with adventure and meeting new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
So far, I have had some success couch surfing without the website in just the first two weeks I have been in Europe. The most exciting one is when I decided to leave Amsterdam. As I was walking away from my campsite wondering where to go next, a pretty girl in tattered clothes and a bike bag and sleeping bag in her hands ran up to me to ask if I was tramping and where I am going. I told her that I am not sure but maybe Berlin. Of course, I reciprocated and asked her the same so she told me she was heading there, too. She asked me where a good place to hitchhike, but of course, I didn't know. She gave me her information and told me to call her when I got there and that her and her flatmates have a place for me. As I walked away from her, however, a bright idea came to mind. That's when I turned around and told her that I would hitchhike with her!
