Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By making new friends and nurturing the old ones...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As I traveled in Ecuador, I met an Argentine woman who was a couchsurfer and introduced me to the local CS community in Montanita. I have met visitors to my home town in Argentina and also other couchsurfers in my travels.

Music, Movies, and Books

Can't go to bed without reading at least a few pages every night. Good novels are my favorite. Bioy Casares, Saramago, Garcia Marquez... I go back to them time and again. The Lord of the Rings... one of those books / movies that I can enjoy in a different way every time I re-visit it.

Argentine folk music, soft rock, electronic music, tango, or the sound of my water fountain at home.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the warmer nights of spring, the beaches of my field site in Patagonia are sometimes adorned with the magic bioluminescence of noctilucas, the “seasparkle.” Noctilucas float by the millions and produce light when they are excited by the motion of the water. In the dark, calm, moonless nights when bioluminescence is more visible, walking along the beach is an eerie experience. The ripples breaking on the beach are lit by this delicate green and yellow light, and the rounded pebbles along the shoreline are bathed in this ethereal water. When I pick them up and shake them, the pebbles seem to glow like tenuous green embers, and minute sparks stick and shine on my hands. In the total darkness of the night, I have seen fish jump out of the water and then fall in again, causing tiny splashes of green light on the black surface of the sea. The stars tell me the time, they show me the seasons, and they remind me how modest and transient our existence is. And sometimes, their light blends with the light of the moon and reflects on the whales' backs as they rest close to shore and close to me.
