About Me

Hello there!

Though this profile is under my name (I'm the one on the left), there's three of us starting our couchsurfing experience :D Me and my two friends, Henna (in the middle) and Emilia (on the right). My age you can see on the profile, they are both 24. We're all from Finland, and have been friends for years. Though Em lives in another city now, we try to meet as often as possible :)

Henna studies to be a youth and leisure instructor, and also works as a pin up model. She's social and not afraid to speak her mind, a great friend and has loads of good ideas on how to have fun!

Emilia's also a student, she's on her first year in the university. She studies social sciences She also has a degree on hospitality management. She's the world traveler of the group, always on map and will keep us others in check on this trip too, no doubt!

As for me, I work as an office secretary and have a degree in business economics. According to Henna I'm a loyal friend, have a weird sense of humour and like sports (true). I love to travel, but haven't been to as many countries as Em. Foreign languages and cultures interest me a lot, Japan especially :)

All of us love to learn about other cultures, eat good food, chocolate and wine. Laugh, have fun, shop, meet new people. And maybe the most important thing: experience Italy together! <3

If you want to know more about us, just ask!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As said above, we're planning a trip to Italy, more spesifically Rome, next January. Neither of us has been there yet, but have been dreaming of a trip there for quite some time. And now that our dear Henna is turning 25 8th of Jan, it's the best time to fulfill this dream finally.

Hoping to find a nice place to crash, get new experiences and meet great new people! See Rome's sights, eat awsome food and drink good wine, go shopping.. It'd be super cool to have a local guide to show us around, also places not so known by travel agencies and full of other tourists.. :) Even nicer would be to make lifelong friend with our host and possibly offer a place to stay to them some time, too!

Interests

Marika: Like I said, foreign languages and cultures are a huge interest for me. Japan especially, probably the biggest dream I have is to go there some day.. I've been learning the language for a few years now, though it's slower to learn than the others I've studied :D English is the one I'm pretty fluent in, understandably as it's seen on tv and the internet every day. I've also studied Swedish, French, German and the basics of Spanish.

Other interests.. I love interior design, though sadly my current apartment is quite small so can't really do much here :P Cats are close to my heart, I have a 6-year-old called Tofu, she's my baby. On my spare time I jog and go to the gym for group exercise lessons, I also like the outdoors. Luckily we have four seasons here in Finland, all have their pros and cons but gotta say I love summer the most :) And of course, I spent as much time with my friends as possible.

Emilia: I love travelling and learning about new cultures. No reason to stay is a reason to go, right? :) I'm also interested in arts even though I'm not very gifted in that area..especially I like writing and reading. I have a great respect to people who can write, draw, paint or take photographs. Animals are also very close to my heart.

Music, Movies, and Books

Marika: Music genres I listen to the most are pop, rock and dance, also some reggae. But don't really hate any genre, tho' maybe the hardest rock or rap is not really my thing..

Movies, well, pretty many kinds too :D Comedy, romantic, action, drama, horror.. Favourite actors include Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Jim Carrey.. Among others.

I like to read, but nowadays I usually only do it on longer trips. I like to read books in English, usually romantic novels..

Emilia: I usually choose my music depending on my mood. :D I love reggae but lately i've been mostly listening to finnish rap/reggae and some pop punk. I like to watch all kinds of movies from chick flicks like sex and the city to some deep artistic ones like dancer in the dark (which is one of my favourites). The latest one I watched was "the way". Only movies I can't stand are the horror movies.. And, as I already said, I love reading. My favorite writer is probably Paulo Coelho ( and J.K. Rowling of course.. ^^).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Marika: Just one? That's hard! :D Well the one that comes first to mind is our trip to Cyprus two years ago. That was also with Henna and Emilia, and our first trip together further away. Awsome experience, such a lovely country and the best friends I could've had for company. I'm sure our trip to Rome will be just as great :)

Emilia: That trip to Cyprus Marika mentioned was really awesome! :) But I guess the most amazing things I've done was my internship in Tanzania and my journey in Asia. Tanzania and in Asia Laos, Malaysia and Bali are my all time favorite places. I'd love to explore more countries in Africa though..

Teach, Learn, Share

Marika: Well all of us can of course teach our host about our home country Finland, it's customs and possibly language too. In return I'd love to learn about Italy, try the food and see sights, maybe learn a few words of Italian :) Meet new people, make new friends and new awsome experiences!

Emilia: I'm with Marika here! I'd love to share experiences and learn about new culture and language.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Emilia: we can share experiences, a friendship, a dinner together... :D
