I would describe myself as a happy girl who likes to meet other people. The more, the better. I like being social, but on the other hand I don't mind spending time on my own and doing what I want, when I want. I can talk a lot but I also know when to shut up.
I love to dance. I danced competition for 11 years. After that I tried out reggaeton and dancehall, so I really would like to explore those dances in South America!
I am a journalist. Worked for 6 months now in a television company. Last year I travelled to Texas and Miami to make a documentary about Cuban emigration to the US. You can watch my work on my blog: https://marjoleinpuype.wordpress.com/
Recently travelled 1 year in South America. Best year ever! From Chile to Colombia.
IMPORTANT: I don't see couchsurfing as a dating app like tinder. DON'T TRY TO HIT ON ME!! I just want to meet fun people, hang out with them, learn from each other but without other intentions ! So if you wanna hang out with me than tell me why and what you wanna do.
(felt I need to say this because since in South-America I've been receiving invitations that rather seemed date invitations... Which I don't respond ofcourse!)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to get in touch with the local people. Yes ofcourse, every couchsurfer does! ;) But I mainly try to be a tourist as little as possible. Travelling on purpose without a travel guide, because I want to share and learn about the local life from local people.
That's also how I made my first documentary El Sueño americano, by living with local people.
The documentary, interview, filming and editing interests I developped during my studies in science of communication and International Journalism. I want to apply my skills while travelling and developping them.
You can see all of my interests come together in my South American project (documentaries about music & dance)
- music festivals
- live music
- adventure travel
- contemporary dance
- video editing
- hiking in the mountains
- second hand shops
Music, Movies, and Books
Into the wild, The Ardennes, Demolition, Shawshank Redemption, Silence of the Lambs
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiking the Sierra Nevada in Andalucia. Also my 1 month travelling alone in Andalucia. First trip alone and enjoyed it a lot.
Hiking Mousala mountain out of season. No preparation at all so quite an adventure, walking on ice without the right equipment. Maybe next hiking we'll make better plans in advance :)
Making my first documentary in Miami about cuban immigration, but I actually had to be in Cuba to film it. I can tell you all about it later.
