About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To have as much fun as possible, travelling the world, broadening my mind - meeting people i would not normally get the chance to meet.

ABOUT ME

1st thing you will notice about me when you meet me is how tall i am.. its always a talking point to begin with and only 1 person in 6 months travelling has guessed my correct height 1st time. 6ft 5 - or 1m 95 for metric people.

I like to keep fairly fit, although do occasionally smoke. This involves swimming, raquet sports - badminton and squash being my favorite - badminton being what im best at. Weight lifting - to try get some weight on my bones.

Currently im 6 months into a trip around the world that is as long as a piece of string. I am in no rush to go home, and I am open to all suggestions. At the moment my breif plan is to spend my 1 year in Australia, try to fit in 3 months seasonal work so i can apply for a 2nd year visa.. then teach english in Vietnam for 1 year, save some money and then head to central and south america to learn spanish and spend a good 3 months on the Amazon River - seeing as much as i can of the biggest rainforest - lungs of the Earth!

I could talk for a long time - I did 18 months I.T sales for Virgin Media in Manchester England before being made redundant due to the economic crisis - best thing that happened to me - as now im free to do what i have always wanted to do - see the world and meet cool people!! This sales was training for opening up conversations with people and not being too afraid of rejection - good training for travelling!!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosphy is changing constantly as I am on my travells, but what has not changed for a good few years now is:

Everything happens for a reason!!

I find that even if something bad happens - it leads you in a new direction which results in good things happening which wuold not have happened if the 1st thing did not happen. If that made any sense to you.. 6 months travelling has ruined my writing skills eeek

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At present I am travelling, and so my participation in CS project will be to sleep on beds and couches and floors of those good people who will let me. From breifly reading and talking to poeple who are members then I hope to make friends through this process also. When I am in a place for a prolonged amount of time I will be accepting poeple to sleep on my couch/floor/spare bed. This maybe in Australia if i get an office job in Sydney/Melbourne or where ever it maybe.. and definately in Manchester or somewhere in England when I eventually return.

I wish I had built up a reputation on here - by allowing surfers into my home but i only found out abou this site once I started my travels.

Everything happens for a reason though, this is my true belief!! If you do not know what the reason is to begin with.. then eventually it WILL come clear!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The only couch surfing i have ever experienced is between existing friends within the UK and once with a friends family in Texas USA.

Texas is probably the best example. Myself and my friend from the UK (Kishore) stayed with his sister and brother in law. We stayed almost 4 weeks - i offered to contribute towards food etc.. but they were so kind and hospitable it really was so humbling! Made me realise that its all about returning the favour. Life is long (hopfully) and there will be a day when the favour can be returned and because of the experiences you have had - you will be 1000x more accepting and helpful to those you take it to your home! Obviously as my friend and I were together - the trust was already there - as if my friend vowed for me - that was enough for his sister and brother in law to accept me into their lives as close as Kishore (my friend i was travelling with).

I hope to build up my experience on this website so that trust would never be an issue, i realise now though im starting from 0 so i hope for all the feedback possible starting out :)

Interests

Travel, new things ive never seen, talked about or done before.. meeting people who know more about something than me and learning from them - much better i think than reading about it. Communication in person/real time is priceless.

Music, Movies, and Books

Good Will Hunting - amazing film
Bravo 2 Zero - good book
Around the map (a book which pretty much covers most of my asian leg of my travels to a ertain extent)
Snatch... Lock stock.. etc..
Goodfellas... Sopranos.. Lost (until the writers went on break and i lost interest)...Prison break.. and Nip/Tuck as it always managed to shock me with its story lines! Fairly hard to shock me..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wow.. where to start.. briefly
Skydive Texas USA
Grand Canyon
Hoover Dam
Graduate from Uni
Meet people who i think are brothers from other mothers from my travels so far..
Motorbiked 700km in Vietnam - and not died
Motorbiked in Laos 1200km both trips were utterly priceless!!!!

Much much more we can discuss in person

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm an I.T graduate.. so even though ive walked away from being a tech guy.. i can still lend a helping hand to a novice and maybe a few suggestions to someone who knows a bit about computers also. Sharing tips and tricks to make using them easier.

Gym workouts.. nutrition is also a strong point of mine - as im naturally tall and very lean ive tried to put on weight and in this process pretty much learnt about every type of food - its nutritional content and how to gain weight, how to lose weight and how to build this into your lifestyle so that your 'fad diet' doesnt end up being a yoyo diet for the rest of your life.. taking into consideration genetics of different people - some find it easy and hard to change their bodys inthe ways they would like to.

I've spen 6 months in SE Asia - Laos 2 months, Vietnam 1 month, Cambodia 1 month, Thailand 1.5 months.. briefly in KL Malaysia and briefly Singapore.. so I can suggest places to stay.. what to see etc .. for different personality people.

I can teach english to people..and suggest places to go within the UK.. although the UK is obviously not interesting to me at the moment as otherwise i would be there myself hehe :)

I'd like to say there is alot more about me I have to offer.. maybe you can tell me what i'm good at once we have spent some time with each other..

I have maybe 10 food dishes i can cook from scratch.. which for a guy who is 23 is an achivement :P
