I'm Mark. I own a small business here in the UK that sells Japanese crafts, such as pottery, woodwork, and metalwork online. You can see it here - http://the189.com
My goal is to represent Japanese craftsmen to the best of my ability, and share their stories and skills internationally.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm hoping to explore Japan and discover some things about Japan that you wouldn't see otherwise. Obviously this will help my business, but it also serves as inspiration for myself.
I also have a passion for Japanese traditional culture and would like to improve my Japanese language skills.
My interest include design, art, photography, architecture, crafts, and many other types of creative pursuits.
I also like football (or soccer), basketball, and usually go jogging on a daily basis.
One of my side professions is as a potter/ceramic artist. I have a small studio where I make functional pottery to sell as part of my business. So that is a strong interest.
- graphic design
- contemporary art
- modern art
Music, Movies, and Books
I like many types of music, from Chill to Hip Hop, also Jazz, Reggae and some Rock.
One of my favourite films is Donnie Darko, but I also like the Godfather movies (1 to 3) and Tree of Life.
Japanese films that I like include 'Departures', 'Megane', and many more.
I read books but they are mainly educational, or for learning purposes.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've travelled many countries in Europe, but I've yet to explore Asia (hence the reason for being on Couch Surfing).
I was also a semi-professional footballer (soccer player) in my youth.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: I can teach you English, I can also share my knowledge on subjects (specifically art, design and photography)
Learn: I would like to learn Japanese, but this is not essential as I'm going to be picking it up on my travels (I do a lot of self study)
Share: Conversation and ideas.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can help you improve your English speaking skills.
All cultures are different and it's good to see how others think, so I'm sure we can expand our knowledge in that way.
