About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make new discoveries and find new places together

ABOUT ME

I speak around the world, and I share what I learn with everyone I meet. If you ask.

As far as where I am based now...Brisbane.

For 20 years I've been travelling the world as a businessman, and now I'm smelling the roses. In the last few years, I've found the desire to connect with people around the world and CS has given that, for sure. I can help people start writing or speaking. You may find that I am really passionate about learning peoples travel stories, their relationships, their reasons for being free. Which is why I travel, its my expression of freedom from the constraints of others idea of a normal life.Wherever you are on your journey, connect. Learn from me as I will from you.

I travel around the world about 3 or 4 times a year. I know a bit about finding good flights, seasonal events, good and bad airlines, hotels, bars, restaurants... and places to stay. But mainly my philosophy is about eating local, drinking local, staying local.

Use the philosophy of travelling and enjoying it, not touristing and leaving after just taking photos. I like to be in the photos, creating memories.

And while I do live online - we have a few rules at the flat when we're watching movies, or eating food - to prevent technology overload - and to build our personal connections.

PHILOSOPHY

I think that you can do anything, you make it happen though, it doesn't just land like a welcome mat on your front door. Sometimes you hunt it down, sometimes you maximise your opportunities.

Life is waiting for you. Live it. No regrets when you look back.

Meet people, like everyone, love some, enjoy the moment and be exhausted and happy at the end of the day.

And make sure you make friends that last. Love them deeply, even when they just cross your path for a few hours or a few days.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host more than most.... and am looking forward to helping people learn the good that comes from sharing their lives.

I advocate for the trust of our fellow men and women around the world, and defend our right to be open and welcoming. Hospitality is a home away from home, with all that entails.

That means hugs. You know you need at least a few hugs each day just to survive... and 5 or 6 to grow. With 6 people here, you should be getting your hug quota managed.

If hugging is uncomfortable for you when you arrive, we know it won't be when you leave.

It means a family feeling like I've never felt before. And it means wanting to never leave!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In the last 4 years especially I've hosted a lot, and probably surfed a bit less. 2012/13 was a record with over 200 people hosted for me. And with some staying 2,3,4,12 weeks, over 1000 nights worth of accomodation shared last year alone.Had many nations represented in those that have stayed. Chile, Spain, Italy, Sweden, USA, Canada, Germany, France, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, England, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Argentina, Brazil, I stay with people and am as generous as I can be - I have always aimed to be a good guest, bringing small gifts, cooking, sharing stories and inspiring as best I can.I love hosting for having company in the house which can sometimes be quiet when the boys are at their Mums house. I have seen the wonders of human nature through CS and I am hoping to continue duplicating it around the world.

Interests

Friends, reading, training, travel, beaches, food, moving house... not sitting still. I love education, real experiences, and happy moments that I will remember forever.

I want to give my kids an ongoing education in the world while I can still guide them. Then when they are off on their own, they can look back knowing they were at least a little prepared.

I'm also pretty interested in direct open communication. When we only have one or two hours or days to meet, I want to know what makes people tick so I get in there and ask the questions to discover who they are and what makes them who they are.

And every traveller has a new perspective on life, living, freedom and independence. That inspires me.

Music, Movies & Books

Matrix, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Transformers - boy movies.
Couples retreat, Wedding Crashers, Zack and Miri make a Porno, Bruce Almighty, Austin Powers. Shrek, Madagascar, Avengers, Iron Man, Every animated kids film in history I think.

Mainly Electronic/Dance at the moment, most MoS albums I like, current BEP, David Guetta's collaborations, things that make me write faster. Boys are listening to Skrillex and a bit of dubstep.

I keep NonStopPlay.com on the laptop when working and when waking up the house.

Reading Paulo Coelho's latest few books, rediscovering the inner Alchemist. Been able to learn as I go. I wish I had more time to read, but right now I'm working on my next book about growing a worthwhile business.
