About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm an American graduate student studying in Europe. I'm originally from the state of Nebraska but identify New York City as closer to home as I went to university there. I think food is one of the best ways to connect with and learn about a culture when traveling. I've taught English in Japan for a couple years, and really enjoyed exposing myself to a country and people where I don't speak the language. (I somehow always manage to put myself in these situations and am very adaptable to them!) I am very bubbly, but like to identify as an extroverted introverted. I prefer socializing in small groups, so a night having a good conversation over wine/beer/juice/water is better than going clubbing to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As I said I'm introverted at times so when traveling it is difficult for me to meet locals. I'm hoping to connect with locals wherever I am visiting and learn about the culture without worrying about accommodation. I'm very used to traveling around and having roommates from different backgrounds. Friends from home call me a nomad since I also alternate staying at theirs when visiting, and it seems like I'm never sitting still.

Interests

I try to do some food research before visiting a new city and star top food places I would like to try, but I love to get recommendations from locals if possible! I'm also trying to be healthier though so if you are into working out I would love to know where the gyms are! Recently I've gained interest in taking some barre, yoga, and cardio kickboxing classes. I'm ok walking longer distances when exploring a new place since I feel like we miss a lot when we travel by car or take public transport.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy listening to lo-fi hip hop when doing work, and my Spotify rounds range from Top Hits to Asian Pop. I'm trying to get back into reading since getting a Kindle and would love any good recommendations! I usually lean towards fiction but do like good nonfiction books too!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to share Vietnamese food/culture with you if you are interested! I was raised in a bilingual household but most of the food my mom made growing up has been Vietnamese (except on American Thanksgiving, where she and my brother make a turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing).

I'd love to share and learn about your experiences with Couchsurfing and traveling abroad.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love dogs! If you have a dog I would love to help take care of him/her. I would like to be a good roommate and friendly company during my stay. Occasional outings or cooking together would be fun!
