About Me

My name is Marta. I am originally from Spain but have been studying Fine Art in London for the past three years. I believe one's art practice should start in the way they live, hence why inventing and challenging my own structures for living is one of major artistic and personal ambitions. I have used my education as a way to pursue my travelling dreams while at the same time become an established artist. I have studied Sculpture in Beijing, and have done several artistic projects in India (one with communities of weavers and another with Sri Lankan refugees). I have recently returned from being a resident artist at Andrea Zittel’s Wagon Station Encampment in Joshua Tree Park desert. In September I will start my Masters degree at the Royal College of Art in London.
I am also running an on-going project called Ba-Bá: International Artist Studio Exchange, where I exchange my studio and living space in Spain with other artists around the world.

I write a blog of everywhere I go and the people I encounter, so perhaps you’d like to have a look! http://www.hippiepicasso.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As much as I love to travel, I have began to despise the idea of "travel for the sake of travel", so I always try find a project that is worthwhile and that will make my journey even more interesting. Having experienced so many cultures and social contexts has led to an interest in the exploration of communication, so I love CouchSurfing for its communitarian and social values.

I think the experience of travel is really enhanced when shared with people from different backgrounds and different life paths.

Interests

I love to listen, read, write, talk, eat, cook, laugh, meditate, swim, cycle... Art, materials, photography, meet new people, learn from different cultures!
