About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"You will do foolish things, but do them with enthusiasm!"

ABOUT ME

Getting people to realize how cool and truly useful science is, meeting new people, and taking the time to learn from those around me.

I am super-busy, like my namesake, the honeybee. :) I like my job, research is fun, but I really love teaching science whenever I can get the chance, in conversations, to first graders, at the high school...I like waking peoples brains up.

When I'm not nerding out, I love to cook, hike and play card and board games. I like my bike, but don't always get along with the hills in State College. Still, I love seeing all the wildlife and flowers that you miss when driving in a car.

I am so excited about my pseudo-garden (no plot of land, so they're all in pots), and make a mean mojito with fresh-picked mint. Nothing really compares to preparing food you produced yourself (although I do have to supplement mine with the farmer's market - one cannot live on tomatoes, onions and mint alone, lol)

PHILOSOPHY

Stealing from the late Carl Sagan, " It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

Teach, Learn, Share

Evolution happens! It has happened, it is happening right now, and will continue to happen. In fact, it not only explains all of the diversity we observe, but all of the similarities as well.

Everyone can cook - not everyone may like cooking, nor may everyone feel comfortable cooking, but everyone can cook. It is easier (yes easier!), healthier and tastier to cook from scratch than you imagine.
