About Me

I DO NOT LIVE IN PRAGUE! I live in Sedlcany, 60 km south of Prague.

ME: I am an untidy chaotic UK national teaching English in Sedlcany who loves cycling and beer. Ive got no pets and Im a failed vegetarian.

CYCLISTS especially welcome. Sedlcany is on the Greenways Prague-Vienna bike route and EV 7 Eurovelo 7 "Sun route" (Prague to Linz section).

I can offer you your own room in my flat and access to internet, kitchen , bathroom and garage(for bikes).

It would be great if you could come to my school the next day and tell my students (in English) about yourself and your bike tour :-)

IF IM NOT AVAILABLE: for a 100kc pile of Chinese cook cooked Chinese food, go to Cibich bar, SE on the town square. Stay in Domino Bar, 100m south of the townsquare opposite the church (450kc) or, if you can speak Czech and deal with old-style bureaucracy, the cycle hostel next to the bus station (300kc). Hotel Florian on the townsquare is 800kc or more. Supermarkets (Mon to Sun to 8pm) are on the roundabout to the south of the town. As for wild camping, try the park between the River Mastnik and the E18 main road.

For cyclists: the next one (or two) day part of the Greenways after Sedlcany is Sedlec-Prcice-Tabor-Plana na luznici-Kardasova Recice-Jindrichuv Hradec (and finally Vienna on the Danube). The next one (or two) day part of the E7 after Sedlcany is Dublovice-Chramosty-Kamyk-Krasna Hora-Orlik-Zvikov-Pisek-Tyn nad Vltavou-Hluboka-Ceske Budejovice (and eventually Linz on the Danube). Czech roads are often very dangerous. At night cycists legally must wear a yellow reflexive vest and have working bike lights.

Non-Czechs: be aware that only "big" towns have shops open 7 days a week (this includes Sedlcany and Tabor, but none of the towns for the 40km in between). If in doubt, use google maps to find "Lidl" and "Penny Market" (all open Monday to Sunday to 8pm). Many restaurant and pubs close their kitchens before 8pm, so order early. In Austria and Germany, almost all shops are closed from lunchtime on Saturday to Monday morning.

Cyclists should also try "warmshowers.org" (yes, it is a stupid name, but it is couchsurfing for cyclists and contains loads of people who host cyclists and loads of info about cycling)
