Sobre mí

I am an honest, compassionate, thoughtful, respectful, trustworthy, laid back, funny, 39 year old man. My partner and I were talking the other day about the interesting concept of being both, introverted and extroverted. She and I both possess these characteristics. I enjoy my quiet, private space, but I also enjoy meeting new people, hanging out with friends and having fun with groups of people.

I grew up in North Carolina, and luckily, my parents took us kids on trips to new places all the time. Aside from North Carolina, I’ve lived in South Dakota, Montana, Arizona, Alaska and now Kansas, where we moved to in 2015 for school purposes.

I was a teacher from 2008-2015, mostly in Alaska. Now I work as the Education Coordinator for a really cool nonprofit called Monarch Watch. I support teachers and students across North America to more effectively utilize their school pollinator gardens as outdoor classrooms (monarchwatch.org/waystationnetwork). I also have a photography business (mtuckerphotography.com) that ebbs and flows with projects, depending on what else is going on in my life.

Traveling and exploring the world and other cultures is one of my favorite things to do. I have visited 49 out of our 50 US states…still haven’t made it to Hawaii yet, and I have visited quite a few countries, which you can see later in my profile if you’re interested.

There is way more about me than I can put in a few paragraphs, so if you're interested in getting to know me better, feel free to get in touch:)

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I am giving Couchsurfing a try as a means to meet locals wherever/whenever I travel. I love learning as much about local culture as possible, and who better to learn from than locals! Guidebooks have their place, but I want to experience what real life is like in the place I am visiting. I also can’t deny I am on here to potentially lower my travel costs. As a teacher and nonprofit employee, living on a budget is a part of life. If I want to continue traveling and exploring the world, I have to find ways to travel on a budget as well.

I am also on Couchsurfing as a potential means for meeting friends here in States who may live nearby and have similar interests.

In the future I may also be able to host couchsurfers at my house…stay tuned.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Hmmm…just one? This could go in so many ways. And “amazing” is a bit subjective anyways. I felt pretty proud of myself after I earned a 4.0 throughout my entire graduate program, while earning my Masters in Education.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I am a teacher by trade, so it is a big part of who I am. To me, being a teacher also means being a student. I am always open to learning from others and from real-life experiences, which is one main reason I love traveling. Cultural exchange opportunities are important to me, so I welcome these potential moments that couchsurfing may provide.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I can share my calm, positive energy, my open mind and willingness to learn and exchange knowledge, my sense of humor, and my easy-going attitude. Being a teacher, I can also share stories, information about my country, and English language skills. Want me to cook a meal? I love to cook and try new food, so the kitchen can provide lots of sharing opportunities. I am also an artist and craftsman, so maybe you are interested in learning some art/craft from me?
