About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Grand Mission: To make the world a better place through the humanistic application of science and rationality. Immediate Mission: To finally travel overseas for the first time, meet new, interesting people and to have a grand time while doing it!

ABOUT ME

The name's Matt. I've just finished my Master's degree in Cognitive Science and have finally been given the opportunity to go overseas for the first time. On the second leg of my trip I will be based in New York and I'm super keen surf DC and Philly with some like minded folks to show/house me in their groovy cities.

PHILOSOPHY

This looks like a serious box. So I'm going to be serious for a bit.

Science is a way of life. Science is a perspective. Science is the process that takes us from confusion to understanding in a manner thats precise, predictive and reliable a transformation, for those lucky enough to experience it, that is empowering and emotional. To be able to think through and grasp explanations ” for everything from why the sky is blue to how life formed on earth ” not because they are declared dogma but rather because they reveal patterns confirmed by experiment and observation, is one of the most precious of human experiences. - Brian Greene

"When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong. "
-Arthur C Clarke - May he Rest in Peace

"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."
--Albert Einstein

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to mention.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nothing comes to mind really, I'm sure I will think of something. Oh I once saved a bus full of children, no wait that was spider-man, never mind. I was bitten by a spider though, on the face. I even went to hospital to get the abscess removed. Still didn't get any powers though. Sad story, I know.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well I'm a white South African, that's always a good conversation starter.

I also have an MA in Cognitive Science so I know a thing or two about the brain. Cool stuff, I promise. Oh and I know about other sciencey stuff too!

I just love meeting new, especially foreign people and widening my perspectives about the world. Life is about learning.
