Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

Enlightenment via Tacoma

ABOUT ME

I'm 33 and have a reputation with friends of being the risk-taker. I've followed my dreams for good or bad, and have experienced both the extreme upsides and downsides of my chosen life. Now I just appreciate each moment.
First, I'm a dad, and have a 2-year-old son whom I don't get to see often enough right now.
I'm also a chef and sommelier by trade, and have worked throughout the food & beverage industry.
I went to college for music, and like to spend time unwinding playing piano and guitar.
My goals are to open my own restaurant and continue farther down my path of self-discovery and spiritual fulfillment.

PHILOSOPHY

“Roll The Dice” by Charles Bukowski

if you’re going to try,
go all the way.
otherwise, don’t even start.

this could mean losing girlfriends,
wives, relatives, jobs and
maybe your mind.

it could mean not eating for 3 or 4 days.
it could mean freezing on a
park bench.
it could mean jail,
it could mean derision,
it could mean mockery,
isolation.
isolation is the gift,
all the others are a test
of your endurance,
of how much you really want to
do it.
and you’ll do it
despite rejection and the worst odds
and it will be better than
anything else
you can imagine.

if you’re going to try,
go all the way.
there is no other feeling like that.
you will be alone with the gods
and the nights will flame with fire.

you will ride life
straight to perfect laughter,
it’s the only good fight there is.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I need to move to Tacoma, WA within the next 2-3 weeks. Once I receive my first paycheck, I will move on from your couch and upgrade to an efficiency suite! I'm currently applying for all sorts of restaurant jobs in the Tacoma area, but would like to stay as close as possible to an area of town that might provide a few options. I've visited Tacoma a few times in the past couple years as that is where my wife (separated) is from and has recently moved back to. I'm currently in Phoenix, AZ, and have the opportunity to move closer to my son now.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've traveled across the US, and have couchsurfed (though not officially through this website..) in Austin, Atlanta, Tulsa, and Orange Co., CA.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I spent 6 months this summer working as a sous chef in a seasonal position at my good friend's restaurant/bar in Young, AZ. I stayed in a cabin about 15 miles down a dirt forest service road in an enclave called Haigler Creek. A quad was my main source of transportation, and about a mile from my cabin was a HUGE Forest Service water bladder positioned on top of a hill to assist helicopters while fighting fires. Since I was about 3.5 hours from Phoenix, and 1.5 hours to a gas station, the night sky would shine with stars, especially noticeable since I had spent so much time in cities during the past 15 years. After dark, I could quad up to the water bladder, climb up on top, and lay there to watch the heavens. It was like the worlds largest waterbed in the most serene environment you can imagine. It was one place I learned to know peace.
I'm a sucker for live music, and once remember seeing The Other Ones (Further Fest) play a cover of the Grateful Dead's "Looks like Rain" in an outside amphitheater just as the sun was going down and the storm was settling in overhead.
