About Me

Hi guys!

My name is Matt and I am from the not-very-exotic city of Cardiff, capital city of Wales, UK. I currently work in a customer service role for a utility company (not the most exciting job, I know, but I do enjoy it) and am almost ready to give it up for a world tour over the course of 6 months or so! Planning to embark on my journey in April 2015 and hoping to have at least 6 months travel and see at least one country in every continent! I am a very relaxed person who loves nothing more than a drink with friends and I love to laugh and tell jokes!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am excited to meet people and make friends in the countries I plan to visit! If I can make at least one lifelong friend from my travels, I will have succeeded in my task! I enjoy speaking to people from all walks of life and am interested in hearing their stories.

Interests

My interests are mainly film and music, however I do have an increasing interest in literature, particularly crime/nor fiction. I also have a serious case of the travelling bug and can think of nothing more that I want to do in life other than travel the globe! If only it was free! I love to discuss and critique film so if I get hosted by a film buff, I can imagine the discussions going on for hours!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a seriously addictive personality with regards to music and once I discover an artist I love they tend to be on repeat for several months after discovering them! At the moment my favourite bands would be Arctic Monkeys, Glasvegas and Slipknot, but that's likely to be a totally different list next year! My favourite movies are True Romance, Mulholland Drive, Submarine, The Raid, Fight Club and plenty more! My favourite books are the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R R Martin, American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellison and Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently travelled to Tokyo alone to give myself a taste of Lone travel! While there I visited a restaurant called Alcatraz E.R. which takes the theme of a mental hospital! From the prison cell-themed tables, scantily clad nurses/waitresses and disturbingly creative drinks (the one I selected was served to me in a hollowed-out dummy head!) It's an experience I'll always remember and would recommend to anybody who loves macabre creativity.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would like to show gratitude for allowing me to stay on somebodies couch in any way possible! Whether it be washing dishes, sharing recipes, helping with household chores and provide friendship and a constant source of conversation. I want to learn basic conversational skills in all of the countries I visit and also share my knowledge with others in whatever way I can!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good humour, plenty of stories, openness in trying lifestyles and cultures different to my own.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United States
