About Me

Moto Idiotas - Fear and loathing in Las Americas. Two mates riding motorbikes from Alaska to Argentina www.motoidiotas.com

Thought a nice break from my undergrad to postgrad studies would be to go on the misadventure of a lifetime riding a motorbike with my buddy Ben from Alaska to Argentina.

So far it has been a fine decision! To gauge a bit more what we're both like cruise on over to our page Moto Idiotas :)

Birth name is Tim, but some people call me Maurice.

Live a life so interesting that your great, great, great grandchildren will still be told stories about you.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I've been an active member of Couchsurfing since 2008, hosting far more people than I've surfed with. I always enjoy meeting new people and love that energy travellers bring into my home when I host. As you can read from my references, I'm yet to have a bad experience in the couch surfing community!

As a seasoned host I know what I've liked from guests and so I do the same when I'm travelling. I always cook the host a meal, clean up after myself and keep my possessions tidy and in one discreet place.

Too many to mention...I'll rattle off some tales that'll make you laugh if you ask :)

I've always been impressed by those people who knew what they wanted to do with their life since high school and went on to do that. My range of interests is so eclectic I could never focus on just one thing (it's rather inefficient to be honest). I like academia as much as sports, music, socialising, travel, film and writing.

Music, Movies & Books

Big fan of the ol moving pictures! Taika Waititi, Coen brothers, Wes Anderson and Charlie Kaufman are usually on the mark for me (yes with a few exceptions...I'm looking at you Synecdoche, New York). But very open minded and easy to please providing it's not starring Steven Seagal.

Like everyone in the 21st century I've got a melting pot of musical taste, love swapping music so come at me couchsurfers!

I'm all about non-fiction and filling my misshaped noggin with information...preferably supported by evidence - Malcolm Gladwell, Michael Shermer, Bill Bryson, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris and the like are muy bueno. Also Errol Flynn's 'My Wicked Wicked Ways' is well worth a geez!

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Once I managed to spend 40 hours on a toilet in Mexico. But that street stand taco was AMAZING. #WorthIt

Teach, Learn, Share

It's super easy to fall back into complacent comfortable living when you're staying with a host and have your own room, internet access and control of the TV remote. But it's important to be conscious that when you've only got a short period of time in a city that you get out there and experience as much as you can.

Countries I've Visited

Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Qatar, Slovakia, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu

Countries I've Lived In

Australia, Hungary, United Kingdom
