Max is my name and I'd like to wish you a warm welcome on my page ! As this is couchsurfing I must say about myself that travelling pretty much describes me. I love adventure and discovering the world is my purpose. Aside from that I'm a history student that loves to have fun, meet new people and have a good duscussion about the world. But mostly I'm there to have fun and experience new things !

PHILOSOPHY

Am not gonna say some bullshit thought but if one thing really describes me it's this : Once you consider it, you can never go back. Moved me in some very far and fun places.

After many years of travelling the world, I find myself settling a bit in my hometown Montreal. I would love to keep in touch with the backpacking crowd and host some cool people.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Since my first trip to Peru at the age of 18, I've seen many wonderful, wild and exotic places. Of those,Iran come to mind vividly. But here is another great memory I have.
My friend and I went to Mestia, a town in the mountains north of Georgia (country) with no particular plan in mind. Arriving there without any expectations (going to Georgia wasn't planned), we dicovered one of the most beautiful and georgous place we've ever seen. Needless to say, we decided to go on a four day hike the next day. Now, the plan was to buy some stuff in the morning, hitchhike to a village and walk back to Mestia on a different trail. Six in the morning, the woman where we were straying woke us up very excited talking georgian. Turns out there was a ride going to said village and was waiting for us. The lady would'nt take our sleepy no for an answer. 30 minutes later we sure found ourserlves in a truck, very excited about the upcoming walk and we figured we'd buy some food in the village.

The village was a medieval town set in a scenery of vivid green mountains populated by mountain goats. Very impressed, we started to walk in the afternoon. The village had little food to sell but we were told there would be many villages on the way back willing to sell us food ans accomodations. Anyway, after 2 hours walking, we had definitely left the trail, hypnotized by the magesty of the place, walking in some Lord of the Rings scenery, we headed for the top of the valley.

Now, here is when things get funny, you see we had been in Georgia for 4 days at that point and during that time we had not seen a single cloud. The thought of possible bad weather didn't even occur to us. Being unprepared for the hike we were wearing shorts, t-shirts, walking sandals and cheap shoes (my friend). That's when a bigass rainstorm materialized out of nothing.

Picture the scene : two guys up in the mountains, already far from any villages, set in a Tolkien scenery, some dubious goats staring at us while some massive rain was on the way. Short of a plan, the only thing we COULD do was to take that cheap umbrella my friend bought in Istanbul and hide under it. We couldn't walk on the slippery and steep mountainside, so we stayed immobile under the umbrella. I hope you can picture the absurdity of the situation, cause we sure did. That's when I had the biggest laugh in my life. I just.. couldn't stop laughing, it lasted at least 15 minutes continuously. Man, that felt good.

Turns out the sun came back 30 minutes after that and stayed there for the next 3 days. That was my travel hightlight of 2012, seeing those wonderful green mountains and sleeping in medieval Georgian villages. Improvisation can bring you the best surprises.
