Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself.
I was astronomer for quite a number of years until I decided to drop out of this office and computer job and to leave my scientific career behind. So I went traveling, lived and worked on a self-sustaining organic farm, lived in a squat house near Berlin, tried to live without money (which worked out surprisingly well)... and other things. Recently, I spent some time with Arche Noah, a seed saving organisation in Lower Austria that aims for preserving and developing the diversity of cultural plants. Next goal might be searching for a new self-sustaining place or farm, I suppose. But who knows? Mmh... I spent last year meditating a lot and doing a number of 10 day retreats... Let's see where this is taking me. I guess my aim is having no aims, and it looks like I'm making some progress... :-) Well, I somehow consider settling down again... but try to remain wide and open, so let's see what's going to happen - but the only realy important thing is what's happening now. And I try to... connect to other people... get to know myself and others... not to take myself too serious... so I'm always interested and curious in other ways and other people's ways of... thinking, living, touching, exploring, singing... and attempting to get along with being humans, with being a living, sensitive creature with all its needs and hopes and pleasures and pains and struggles and... everything... know what I mean? Trying to learn the art of living! And I'm always happy about other people letting me know about their attempts of mastering this common fate of being human.
However, good luck to you! May all beings be happy!
Meanwhile, until I find the time to come up with my "philosophy" :-) here's a quotation by Aitken Roshi:
Once a student came to me and said he was depressed because he had realized that there is nothing to depend upon. I laughed, and he asked why I was laughing. I said, "Why do you think the old Zen worthies were always clowning around?" He laughed. The biggest joke in the universe is that there is nothing to depend upon. When you see that joke, then you are free to get up when the alarm clock goes off.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I did, in fact, a lot of couch surfing during the past ten years, but not with couchsurfing.org, so I'm a newbie here...
Stars. Gardening. Enlightenment. Lots of other things, but the former three I spent many years with. I broke up with stars after ten years (beautiful but too distant). I'm not sure about enlightenment (what a concept!). But I definitely love gardening, so I hope I will get back to growing my own food within the next few years. We'll see.
