ABOUT ME

meLANIE:
I just moved to Portland, Oregon.
Life is changing. I'm embracing it.
I mostly consist of: Outdoor markets. Jarritos. Homemade Tamales. Youth. Bike rides. Camp stuff. Manzana Lift. Crepes on 23rd. Being ridiculous. Horchata. Fondue. Thai Food.

PHILOSOPHY

My passion is youth ministry. Some day I will youth minister at a bare-foot church. I want to share my faith with as many people as I can, especially youth. But Christianity has gotten such a bad image hasn’t it?
I thank God for the differences in culture, beliefs, religion, views, etc, what a uninteresting world we would live in if we all believed the same thing.
I don't buy into the literal interpretation of the bible.
Being a Christian isn't, for me at least, about those things, or about disrespecting other people's views, about forcing people to believe your own beliefs, about telling others that they are condemned. It’s not about setting yourself up in opposition to people, but about engaging in dialogue and breaking down barriers. We are all equal in God's eyes and all equally - and unconditionally - loved.
We were created in the image of God in an experiential, and/or existential sense, more than we were in a physical sense.
The image of God is love.
Love is God.
There are those who genuinely live without the knowledge or experience of real love. I don't know what love is, as it is defined by our scholars and dictionaries. Love, to me, is a daily act, a daily process of sacrificing yourself for the good of others, or to put others and their needs before yourself and your own.
I do my best to try and live my life in this mindset. I believe that if every person were to live, or even think in this fashion, then true graciousness may not ever die. We need our knights again. Men and women who wear the armor of God, exhibiting the image of God in all that they do. In this, the image of God will shine brightly for the entire world to see.
God is love.
And I think that, THAT is the true center of Christianity.
