Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted a heaps of surfers so far , met many for drinks, parties and various other CS gatherings. These days I'm not as active in hosting as I used to be, mainly due to my hectic travel schedule.
I'm passionate about Mzansi (South Africa), and love to share my passion about my amazing country and its people. I'm very knowledgeable about backpacker and budget travel in SA.
As a guest, I like to learn from my hosts... your culture, your food, your music, your politics, your favourite local spaces & places :)
Lot! Met, hosted and surfed through CS. I've crashed on many a couch, floor, patio, mattress, tree-house, tipi, mud hut, car... even pitched my tent in a few backyards...
Best CS experience: ooh, there have been lots...
*Best - all the friends I've made through CS
*Bushfire music festival in Swaziland
*being hosted by a food and wine guide in Barcelona
*marching against xenophobia with CSers through Hillbrow, Johannesburg...one of the roughest parts of town toyi-toying and *vuvuzela-ing in the spirit of unity!
*meeting CS friends 5 years after we'd met in Johannesburg at the wedding of 2 couchsurfing friends in India
Hosted... 100+ nights, 50 + people, 21 countries
Surfed: Mauritius, Maputo, Barcelona, Granada, Amsterdam, Mumbai, Cape Town
Organised heaps of Joburg meet ups as former ambassador of CS South Africa community (I'm not that organising events anymore as my schedule gets too busy)
African travel, roadt rips, festivals, pineapple-balancing, live music, art, picnics, djembe drumming, midnight swims, dancing round fires, dancing in my dreams, rolling down dunes, playing in the waves, meeting random people, red wine, cooking, sunrises, eating cheese, craft beer, hiking, boardgames...

Movies: Too many... Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Amelie, Y tu Mama Tambien, District 9, Spirited Away, Juno, Memento, The Motorcycle Diaries,
Music - too much to list, very eclectic. Everything from jazz and world music to reggae, rock, indie, ska, and everything in between. I love listening to music from all over the world, stuff we wouldn't ordinarily find on SA radio waves. I'm a big fan of world music and traditional instruments. I LOVE LIVE MUSIC and supporting local bands. A few favourites: The Brother Moves On, Nakhane Toure, Sublime, Manu Chau, Bob Dylan, Mafikizolo, Salmonella Dub, Tumi and the Volume, Xavier Rudd, Hugh Masekela, The Rudimentals, Spoek Mathambo, Brenda Fassie, Ali Farka Toure, Nina Simone, Miriam Makeba, Kings of Leon, Ben Harper, Cake, Lee Scratch Perry, TBOM, Thievery Corporation...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Lucky for me, I've had many amazing experiences, though I'll mention two... you can ask me about the others ;)
*The Sardine Run, Kwazulu Natal South Coast, South Africa :
A truly amazing morning! Sipping my morning coffee while staring out into the intoxicating Indian ocean, I noticed that the sea was thriving with activity. The Sardine Run - the largest shoal on earth had arrived to Umtentweni beach... dozens of sharks jumping out of the water in full breach, hundreds of Cape gannets diving, beaks spearing into the sardine-abundant ocean, schools of dolphins taking advantage of the feeding frenzy, whales breaching in the horizon.... amazing! Nature at her best :)
Bulungula , an eco-friendly paradise in my favourite part of the world, the Wild Coast, Eastern Cape, South Africa:
I'm sitting on a sand dune with the Transkei sun rising on the ocean as the full moon sets over a dune. As dolphins are play in the wild waves, cows roam freely on the beach... I feel privileged to be here. This is Bulungula, a little Xhosa village, difficult to find on a map, difficult to get to, yet truly special. I love this place for its simplicity, sustainability, natural beauty and the indescribable sense of peace that I get when I'm there. It's my inspiration :)
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to balance pineapples on your head if you teach me your favourite recipe from your country :) Want me to host you? Mention in your request that you'll cook me a dish from your home country.
I love Johannesburg and can show you what makes this city so special to me. If you want to walk this city, find its coolest bars and the best local live music acts... then we will get along just fine :) I have maps, guides and a wealth of local knowledge. It's kind of what I do now - share the love for my amazing country.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can cook for you (I'm a pretty good cook - especially Indian & Italian) share my culture, stories from the road and give you tips on how to start a blog.
