About Me

I like to travel. My upcoming destinations are Iceland and Faroe Islands. After a short work break in Scotland, sailing to Urugauy and Paraguay for 3-6 months. Because of claustrophobia I am unable to fly, so my main travel modes are trains and boats. I really enjoy the ship travel, trains are a little on the boring side, but both are entirely nessesary to get to my next adventure. Food is something I enjoy a lot, local dishes and sea food are my two favourites. I am a reasonable cook. I have crewed on sail boats as "chief dude in the galley" Never lost a fellow crew member or had a complaint, that they said to my face at least.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Several times we travelled (my daughter and I) to northern Europe. We usually tried couch surfing at least once in each town we stayed in. Alot better than cold impersonal hotels and we found hostels a hit and miss kind of thing. Couch surfing is a great way to meet local people and get a true flavour and sense of the area we were in. We had nothing but positive experiences and often made good friends. We have stayed in touch with some of those people over the years and even hosted a few here in Canada. And no, If you come for a visit, we can't visit Niagra Falls and Banff/Rocky Mountains the same day. Nor do I likely know a 3rd cousin twice removed, living in Edmonton Alberta who's name has temporarily slipped everyone's mind.

Music, Movies, and Books

Of music, movies and books, books by far are the most enjoyable. I like the information and the chance to change a point of view. Occasionally, if I am paying attention, I can even gain a little knowledge that a good book brings. I like music, my tastes are mostly in Blues and certain styles of jazz. My issue with music is that when I travel I do not bring any electronics including cell phone. So music is limited. I don't normally watch movies. They have to be truely exceptional and I "loved the book" inorder to keep my interest. Watching the surf or wildlife etc., is more entertaining to me than sitting in a movie theatre. I do like the popcorn though.

Teach, Learn, Share

Shareing is a great way to learn. If I share enough perhaps I can teach too. That would almost be a circle. Share, learn, teach, every time you teach you are sharing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, experiences, laughter, my modest knowledge of mundane topics, pictures of my dog (a yellow Lab). Friendship.
