About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Go places, see things, meet people.

ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Michelle, a fourth year from the University of California, Santa Barbara. It's my last quarter in school and I want to make the most out of whatever's left of my carefree student life before I become a full-fledged member of society. So I'm currently wandering Europe under the pretense of studying abroad.

I'm friendly, open, very neat, and respectful. When I go to new places, my goal is to have the most authentic cultural experience in that country as possible. So I'd much rather meet friendly locals and do everyday things than go sight-seeing. But of course, sight-seeing is fun too.

PHILOSOPHY

Be positive and be kind. And remember those who have given you a helping hand because who knows where you'd be without them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My apartment is too small to host and too far from the city center to be worth the trip...But I'm open to meeting and hanging out with people passing through Berlin while I'm here.

If my couchsurfing experience in Europe goes well, I definitely look forward to hosting travelers when I return to the States.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've yet to actually surf any couches but my friends who have previously done it said they had an awesome experience. They also said that it's a great way to meet people and get around sooo...fingers crossed!

Interests

I like eating. No, I love eating. So if you like to eat too, we will definitely be friends.
I also like train rides, night lights, funny stories, and red wine. Don't mistake that last one for "I know all about wine and I'm a wine snob." Because I'm not. I just like to drink.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm entertained very easily...therefore I like a lot of things. Too many to list here entirely. But if you must know, a few of my favorite:

Movies - Thank You for Smoking, 10 Things I Hate About You, almost anything Disney, All About My Mother, the Harry Potters, A Better Life, Chicago, The Help

Music - honestly, most people my age hate my taste in music. I'm either stuck in the 90's or listening to tunes inherited from my dad's collections. I'm all about the oldies.

Books - The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini), The Last Empress (Anchee Min), A Hundred Secret Senses (Amy Tan), The Importance of Being Earnest (Oscar Wilde), Speak (Laurie Halse Anderson), Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (Mindy Kaling)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I've ever seen is men in their fifties or sixties climbing up the mountain with like 50 lbs of food or supplies on their backs because there aren't any roads for cars in HuangShan. Literally closest thing I've seen to super human strength.

And unfortunately, I don't think I've done anything in my lifetime that is worthy of being called "amazing." But hopefully, something will happen soon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've been lucky enough to see a lot in my short life...I spent two weeks at a Navajo Reservation, have volunteered on skid row, lived in the eastern hemisphere, and now I'm discovering the west (outside of the U.S.); so I'm always happy to talk about different cultures and lifestyle and foooooood.

I can also teach you how to say funny things in Chinese!

Countries I’ve Visited
