About Me

I'm currently a Chemical Engineering student at Stony Brook University in New York. Being born and raised in Montana and living in upstate New York now, I have moved around quite a bit. My dad traveled the barebones backpacked the United States when he was in his 20's and from his stories has infected me with his wanderlust. I have always lived in small towns. University is actually the most populated place I have ever lived.
Being born in Rural Montana I have a deep love for nature, it its raw beauty. I lived at the base of the Rocky Mountains and have taken many trips into them. Yellowstone National park is vast, beautiful and also dangerous if you are not careful.
I am deeply curious about foreign cultures and especially their food. I love to eat! I will try anything once and if I don't like it now I'll try again in a few years to see if I do then.
My first trip outside of the states (except Canada) will be a summer trip to Shanghai, China taking a class there at Tongji University. I am so incredibly excited for this! I jumped at the opportunity when it was presented to me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Being a college student, especially at such a diverse university like Stony Brook has furthered my desire to travel. I have always loved traveling, even road trips to nowhere. Seeing things that I have never seen before excites me in ways that not even I understand. But on the same token, I am not the son of a billonaire, and as such can not travel first class or stay at the finest hotels. I hope that CS will help me be able to connect with people like me, locally and abroad, and also give me an alternative way to travel and experience the world in all of its beauty.

Interests

Riding or driving just about anything with wheels!! I've been riding motorcycles since I learned how to ride a bike.
Camping -- my families idea of a vacation which I love
Reading -- I have quite a vast range of things I like to read
Gaming -- Used to be more into it
Exploring -- Anything I haven't seen or is mysterious. ( I explored the vast off limits underground tunnel system underneath my University as well as secret entrances to quite a few places that shouldn't be accessible )
Drinking -- I love a good beer, and even a bad one with good company
I am also very interested in the emerging energy market as well as a sustainable way to power the future, and thankfully that is what I am going to school for.

Music, Movies, and Books

Alternative/rock, old school rock and roll, thats what I was raised on
It's hard not to like some EDM, it is awfully catchy.
I have a vast range of interests in music as with many things in life.

I love watching movies, it is an amazing feeling to be lost in a different world or in a story. For this same reason I also have a passion for reading. Sometimes you just need a break from your own reality and a look into someone else's.

Lord of the Rings, Interstellar, old disney movies (not the new ones) adventure movies most of all, also travel documentaries.

Clive Cussler, Robert Ludlum, James Patterson, Christopher Paolini, Terry Goodkind, anything that interests me really

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed a mountain and camped on the overlooking cliff to watch the 4th of July fireworks from all the surrounding cities at once.

Being told that I would not make it as an Engineer and denying my request into the college of Engineering, and subsequently making it my lifes work to prove that woman wrong, getting 4.0's 3/4 semesters after she said that.

Teach, Learn, Share

Anything you want to learn about Chemical Engineering, I got you. But it seems nobody does haha.
I am always looking to learn, and am a quick study, as long as whatever it is interests me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook and am pretty good at it. I don't really follow recipes but can make just about anything taste good. And I have a few signature dishes that I would love to make for any host. And a little help is always appreciated, both for me and whoever I would stay with. I would also help clean of course and be respectful.
