One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Simple things are sometimes the most amazing if you stop to think about them

Watching my children being born.

The moment in time when I felt real love for someone wash over me and felt the tears of joy run down my face as I held them close.

As a child seeing Cape town appearing out of the mist as our ship approached the coast of Africa to dock there, the sadness as we left and the yearning ever since to return.

Having someone die in my arms and feeling this overwhelming sense that this was not the end but the beginning for them. (not something I usually share or share easily)

Sailing a damaged fishing boat from an island along the coast all night on my own with no lights, radio, navigation or proper steering and at the first light of dawn seeing my home port come in to view. (no I’m not a fisherman and I’m shit scared of drowning Haha)

Standing in the bush alone at first light, hundreds of km from anywhere. Hearing the birds wake, the smell of damp gum leaves and the sky turning pink over the trees, feeling so alive

Helping someone who sees no end to their misery and fear, to freedom and a new life. The joy and release showing on their face as they start to live again.
