To wander to every wonder of the world and meet people who wander in wonder
CS IS ABOUT INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGE - PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT!
If you joined Couchsurfing thinking it's about a FREE PLACE TO STAY (you are dead wrong, it's not!) or if you joined but don't know fully what it's about, start here: http://www.couchsurfing.com/about/resource-center/
For a last-minute couch or emergency couch request in Beijing (that is, if you need a host in less than 72 hours) go here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/groups/beijing-last-minute-couch-request
If you want me to host you, read my profile from beginning to end - yes, every word.
If you want me to host you, click on the big blue SEND REQUEST button at top right, not the gray e-mail button next to it. All couch requests sent by the CS e-mail messaging system will be ignored. So use the proper channel.
Despite what you might have heard or read, Couchsurfing is not to be treated like some sort of free hostel or hotel. It's about guests and hosts getting to know each other, sharing experiences, stories, life. Too many freeloaders, misinformed and uninformed people are now on the site, so I'm going old school on the intended purpose of CS!
NOW, ABOUT ME
Little pleases me more than being in a foreign country hanging out with the locals. Sure, I enjoy the big tourist draw sites as much everybody else, but at the end of the day, I want to be in a neighborhood where the locals eat, drink and share good times.
In February 2011, I began a journey around the world and have been traveling since. I sold everything I owned, including my apartment, to embark on this journey. So far this decision has led me to untold adventures :)
One of those places is China, where I am currently an editor and foreign expert with an English-language newspaper. Taking the job has allowed me to take a temporary break from constantly being on the move with a backpack on my back, though I continue to travel, exploring China and the rest of Asia.
If you get a couch request from me rest assured you've been chosen carefully and I really want to meet you. Your couch is secondary, merely a place to rest my head. You are what is important. If I ask for your couch it is because I hope to spend time getting to know you and to learn about you. It is because I believe that we can learn something from each other and perhaps even build a lasting friendship.
I AM clean, honest, easy-going, friendly, and able to shift gears with no problem, and I love adventure. I do not let little things bother me life. Let's hang in harmony, peace and love! :)
I HAVE a travel blog: miketendstotravel.wordpress.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Long before I became an CS ambassador, I hosted hundreds of people, way more than the count CS shows. I have hosted and attended many CS events.
Through it all, I have met some very cool people who have enriched my life. I look forward to making new friends across the globe and again meeting the ones I've already met.
Out of hundreds of positive experiences, one very bad apple new to the site who gave me a retaliatory negative reference. As CS grows, with the increase of good people come also the bad. Such is life. It is what it is.

Flying down an active volcano on a mountain bike in the Andes Mountains in Ecuador, with wild horses running across the path, that was pretty amazing
Breakfast with Nelson Mandela, at his home, was pretty awesome
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to do backflips if you don't mind landing on your head (translation: you don't want to learn backflips from me :)
I can teach you English, Spanish and as much as you can stand to hear about the United States, having been to 49 of our 50 states.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Great company and stories I will someday share with the rest of the world in my book
But mostly happy to share with CS newbies how CS really works. We need to get this community back to the "true CS spirit'.
