About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.

ABOUT ME

Hi friends! I'm Evan. Very nice to meet you. I'm from New York state originally, but I'm currently living in Western Ukraine and teaching English as a second language to middle and high school students. I'm a very opened-minded individual and always ready for a new adventure.

I started working as a white water raft guide when I was 18, during my summers from University. By the time I graduated I knew that I wanted to continue to play on the river and explore this great world of ours. I threw my degree in my closet (where it's been gathering dust ever since) and headed down to South America with my rafting gear, a couple dollars in my pocket and an eye for fun. That trip lasted me 5 months before I ran out of money, and took me through most of Chile and Argentina, with a little taste of Bolivia thrown into the mix. I returned to the state of Colorado with my rafting job waiting for me. I knew once I had enough saved up I would hit the road again; South-East Asia was to be my next destination.

After a summer of rafting and then a long winter answering phone I got myself a plane ticket to Bangkok and arrived there in mid-March. I figured I had enough money to last me 6-10 months. I had no plans except my first nights hostel booked in Bangkok. When that trip finished up, 9 months later, it had taken me though Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Tibet, Nepal, India, and then one last week swinging in a hammock on a Thai beach before I returned to the cold New York winter time (it was December).

I spent the rest of that winter waiting tables in a mountain town in Colorado and skiing everyday. That summer I went back to rafting for one last summer in southern Colorado (my 6th full summer there), and then I moved up to Bozeman, Montana for almost two years. There I worked in a restaurant and explored the beautiful nature the area has to offer. Hiking, camping, and running in the summer. Amazing skiing in the long winter!

It was great there, but I wanted to travel again, and do something meaningful while I traveled. So here I am in Ukraine, teaching, learning a new language, and exploring a new part of the world for me. It's a beautiful thing, and I ready to meet more great people along the way... Are you one of them?? :-)

PHILOSOPHY

Peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God.
-Kurt Vonnegut

Life is way to short to be spent in an office, but sometimes you gotta pay the bills. Don't let work distract you from what really important: FUN!
