About Me
Hi friends! I'm MJ and I'm a real-life explorer! I'm currently traveling the world with my saving grace, Kim. We have over 30 countries planned for 16 months... so we could use some help!
I'm a classic treehugger hippie-type, straight down to the Birkenstocks. I'm addicted to adventure, anywhere I can find it. I love this planet and all its high peaks, crisp air, and fresh water lakes! I studied conservation and wildlife in college, so I can probably tell you a lot of interesting details about nature. I'm like David Attenborough, but less stoic. I'm also one of those people that can find a dangerous adventure no matter where I go. For those who are worried about my use of the word "dangerous," don't worry - I'm medically certified. I'm also an avid skier, but when there's no snow to be found, I head underwater. I'm rescue diver certified - hopefully on my way to Divemaster.
I happily embrace any lifestyle in the sunshine. Or really any good light... as long as I can take a photo.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm a very experienced traveler, and my best adventures have always come with those who live in the area. Meeting new people is part of why traveling is so fun for me! I want to make new friends and see the world with them. Couchsurfing is the best way to explore new places with people you'll never forget.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One day in Fiji, we were boating to a nearby island for lunch. On the way - in the middle of the ocean blue - we encountered a pod of whales. With permission from the captain, I hopped in the water with my fins, mask, and snorkel. I came face to face with the most elegant, peaceful creature that roams our waters. It was pure bliss - until I glanced to my left. The stark silver against endless blue was enough to stop my heart on the spot. A shark. Every ounce of blood in my body was replaced with adrenaline as I propelled myself back to the boat, images of bloody mania flooding my mind. I hauled myself over the side of the boat, breathing in the salty air of relief. I had not only the most pure moment of my life, but also the most panicked moment of my life that day. Don't believe me? Maybe I'll show you the video.
