I"m a 24 year old recent college graduate from UC Santa Cruz. I work for a fair trade food company that allows me to work while I travel (as long as I have my computer and wi-fi!)
Other than that, I love to travel and meet new people, wander cities without being stressed about seeing the popular tourist stuff, photograph new and interesting things, and discuss/ think about different social justice issues. I'm addicted to coffee and swimming in the ocean. I love doing anything outdoors, even if it's just sitting on a bench and people watching.
Throughout my travels, I've realized I'm not your typical traveler (at the least compared to the ones I've met!). My mother was killed in a car accident one and a half years ago. After that, it made me rethink my world views and my place on this earth. I wanted to travel, but always thought I should be searching for my career. After her death, though. I chose to travel. It was an amazing experience and I'm so thankful for it, but I also found that I wasn't like many solo travelers my age. Instead of drunken nights in the club, I found myself seeking meaningful conversations over a glass of wine. I found that I'm very independent and am ok with doing things on my own. This isn't to say I don't like to have fun! It's just that I've realized the importance of making meaningful connections and not wasting time on things that seem fun in the moment, but leave you broke and hungover. Sorry, TMI for Couch surfing?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
My participation has been pretty minimal. I couch surfed twice with some friends, but we organized it through their accounts, and I've hosted once. I recently went on a five month trip that started in Iceland and ended in Korea. I found I had trouble finding hosts because of my lack of CS references. I'm hoping to change that.
My favorite Couch surfing experience was definitely when my housemates and I hosted these two Danes who were on their way to Mexico. Dancing in our apartment and taking them out to the clubs are some of my fondest memories.
I'm interested in people's stories and learning about where they come from. I can be just as happy finding a cafe and having great conversation all day, as I can on a day of tourism. I think a balance of both is important.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: My current favorite movie is Moonrise Kingdom. But I'd say my all time favorite movie is Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock
Music: I'm fond of a lot of music, but I'm currently on a Bon Iver kick.
Books: History and memoirs. Currently reading Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My 5 month trip that took me from Iceland to Korea, and several places in between.

Be careful of the chicken you eat in Thailand. I ate street vendor chicken and it landed me a plane flight home because I was ill for a month and not getting better. I was careless with this on my travels and hope you won't!
