About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live abundantly: to learn and grow and never stop giving.

ABOUT ME

Hi there,

My name is Molly and I am currently working on my master's degree at UBC where I study historical and environmental geographies of British Columbia.

I also like reading early american novels, all things canadiana, knitting rectangles, riding around on my bicycles, making good food with friends, preparing for winter, sitting on porches with a bottle of whiskey and all sorts of other good things.

PHILOSOPHY

To try and leave behind goodwill wherever i am. To be generous and surprising. To listen well and with empathy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am living in a big home right now with plenty of people going in and out all the time. It is not necessarily ideal for surfing, but i would be happy to show people parts of town (Vancouver) which i really love! If you want to find out where the best cheap vietnamese and sushi can be found, where the grooviest secondhand bookshops and secret neighborhoods be, then i am your woman! You are formally invited to my kitchen for tea and cookies.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had such an incredible experience in Fairbanks staying with a lovely young couple who were studying music at the University of Alaska. There was music every night and we made them dinners and hung out with their lovely and exasperating dogs. I couldn't imagine a more fun to get to know a place than through the homes and lives of people who live there.

Interests

oh gosh. i am gaining more and more all the time i think. i am interested in the social history of my province. I am interested in photography, as an artistic medium, as a way of acting as aides-memoires to experiences we might forget about otherwise, as a way of constructing memories and histories. I am interested in art history, especially art produced on the Northwest Coast. I am interested in building community around good food. I like making things grow, i like making things with my hands that i can wear, eat or give away. I like making music with other people. I like listening to the radio. I like camping in free and special places, hiking up mountains on our beautiful coast and swimming in the ocean as much as possible. I like noodling around at the bike shop with my bicycles. I like wooly sweaters, heavy denim that sits around my belly button and leather shoes. I really like backpacks that i can fill with produce and books and spare sweaters and thermoses.

Watching sea elephant bulls make battle. did a stint picking apples in beautiful Nova Scotia. drove across Canada in the late summer. Bicycle toured through Alaska.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach...bread baking, preserving, basic bike mechanics.

I would like to learn...to play the banjo and the squeeze box.
