I grew up in southeastern PA and moved to Charleston, SC after graduating high school. My goal was to travel the world and explore. Somehow I got stuck and ended up spending the past 9 years enjoying one of the best cities and top travel destinations in the world. It's been incredible, however I still have an intense desire to travel and explore. So at the end of last year I quit all 3 of the serving jobs that I had been working and decided it was time to start living my dream.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I would like to take time to explore interesting places and meet new people. I don't want to plan my trip too far in advance. I want to allow for spontaneous plans to arise and for life to steer me in the direction that it knows I need to go. I can't wait for more adventures to arise!
I like cooking, home improvement projects, music, yoga, (trying to get into) running and other fitness hobbies. I love dogs and most other animals. And they usually seem to love me too! I try to do artistic things, except I'm horrible at painting. I also might have a slight netflix addiction lol!
Music, Movies, and Books
I love classic rock, everything from 80's glam rock like Queen to hippy/island music like Jimmy Buffett. I like country, pop, a little bit of hip hop, and some indie rock. I'm always open to something new and interesting. I love tv too; everything from Friends and It's Always Sunny to Dexter and Orange is the New Black. I wish I read more, (I have some slight ADD) but when I do I like Chuck Palahniuk, Fitzgerald, and some funny bios, think Chelsea Handler and Mindy Kaling.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I love to volunteer. I wish I did it more. But I have been a camp counselor for the past 8 years with MDA. I spend a week working with kids that are physically and/or mentally challenged. It's sometimes difficult but always rewarding. Especially when they tell me how camp is their favorite week of the entire year because it's the only place that they are treated like a 'normal kid.' It brings tears to my eyes just thinking of it!
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm trying to become a writer so I decided to start a blog. And I thought a good way to start was to write about the adventure that I'm embarking on. It's definitely not something that most people would think of doing so I think I have a great topic and (definitely) a unique perspective. If you have any knowledge on this topic and would care to share it I would greatly appreciate it. I'm even willing to barter!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can do many simple repairs around the house and/or home improvement projects. Painting, wallpaper, refinishing furniture, building/assembling furniture, flower arranging, gardening, lawn work (even though it's my least favorite chore), and cleaning pretty much anything!
