VERSIÓN ESPAÑOLA

Hola! Somos Moreno y Sonia, tenemos 27 y 25 años y somos de Catania (Italia). Yo, Moreno, me gradué en la Academia de Bellas Artes como diseñador gráfico. Mi novia se graduó en Ciencias e Idiomas para la Comunicación, en el departamento de Humanidades de la Universidad de Catania.

La pasión por el arte me acompaña desde pequeño, hoy en día más que nunca experimento cada día formas nuevas para soltar mi fantasía.
En el pasado tuve la oportunidad de exponer mi trabajo fotográfico, y tomé parte en la realización de cortometrajes y anuncios publicitarios. A pesar de mis estudios artísticos, cuento con una experiencia decenal en la gestión de restaurantes y empresas hoteleras, trabajo éste que talvez más que el arte supo poner a prueba mi creatividad.

Sonia ya cuenta con varias experiencias como trabajadora social, en particular en el sector de la comunicación intercultural. Su esfera de interés toca principalmente la minorías étnicas y más ampliamente los fenómenos de emarginación social. El ejemplo concreto es su tésis experimental, en la cual trata las condiciones sociales y políticas de las comunidades gitanas en Italia por medio de un trabajo de análisis de terreno en un asentamiento gitano de la provincia de Catania.

Convencidos de que la efervescencia social es el motor que pone en marcha el mundo, aquí en la ciudad en la cual vivimos hemos creado una pequeña comunidad llamada Casa dell’Orto (Casa de la Huerta), integrada por estudiantes y jóvenes trabajadores que quieren colaborar para vivir en un ambiente sano, compartiendo sus recursos y su tiempo, y discutiendo detenidamente sobre su visión del mundo, con el fin de lograr un crecimiento colectivo.
Aquí en la Casa dell’Orto también le ofrecemos alojamiento a todos los turistas que quisieran compartir su viaje con nosotros y a la vez juntarse a nuestra pequeña familia. Es típico que estas dos cosas acaben coincidiendo, y alcanzan el ápice durante una comida, todos alrededor de una mesa durante horas contándonos historias, riéndonos y cantando.

Nuestro objetivo es conocer un mundo diferente y lejano del nuestro, en el que podamos vivr nuevas experiencias y al mismo tiempo proporcionar un apoyo sustancial al contexto en el que nos encontramos. Los dos estamos entusiastas y curiosos de conocer cuáles nuevas aventuras nos esperan, y estamos bien concientes que no se puede rumbear de un sitio a otro sin parar, o hacer tan sólo breves apariciones, sino que hace falta quedarse el tiempo necesario para dar una contribución válida y construir vínculos sólidos

A pesar de tener títulos distintos, ambos tenemos una pasión por los trabajos manuales y una fuerte voluntad de conocer desde cerca las realidades menos privilegiadas.

En un mundo que nos empuja a trabajar para consumir a un ritmo cada vez más rapido, estamos convencidos de que hoy más que nunca es necesario volver a interpretar la palabra trabajo y otorgarle una definición adecuada: para convertir la velocidad en lentitud, y el consumo en construcción.
Para mi y Sonia trabajar significa mejorar, sí mismos y el ambiente en el que vivimos.

Entusiastas de salir, queremos conocer nuevas personas, sentir el olor de ciudades aun desconocidas, comer todas las comidas del mundo y aprender 10 idiomas más.

ENGLISH VERSION

Hi! Our names are Moreno, 27, and Sonia, 25, and we come from Catania (Italy).
I, Moreno, got a degree as graphic designer from the Academy of Fine Arts; my girlfriend has a BA in Language and Communication Studies from the department of Humanities of the University of Catania.

A passion for art has been my companion since I was a kid; these days more than ever I'm constantly trying out new ways to express my fantasy.

I had the chance to take part in photo exhibitions, and I worked on the making of short movies and advertising.
Despite my art studies, I possess a years long experience in the management of hotel and restaurant enterprises, a job that perhaps more than art challenged and teased my creativity.

Sonia has gained significant experience as a social worker, particularly in the sector of intercultural communication.
Her focus is on ethnic minorities while her domain of interest stretches to social marginalization in a broader sense. A concrete example is her BA thesis where she tackled social and political conditions of Roma (gypsies) communities in Italy through the lens of her field research in a gypsy camp not far from Catania.

Persuaded that social dynamism is the engine that gets the world going, we have created a small community right here in the city where we live, called Casa dell'Orto (House of the Orchard). Casa dell'Orto hosts students and workers willing to join a common endeavor to create and live in a healthy environment, by sharing our time and resources, and discussing in depth about our views of the world, with the goal of growing together.

On top of that, here at Casa dell'Orto we have arranged a shelter for travellers who want to share their journey with us while joining our small family. These two aspects typically overlap with one another, and the entire thing reaches its utmost just around a table, where hours fly by as we share our stories, laugh and sing together.

Our goal is to discover a different and far world from our own, in which we can make hands-on experience and at the same time give an actual contribution to the environment where we find ourselves.

We are both curious and eager to find out what adventures life has in store for us, and we are fully aware that you cannot simply rush from a place to another restlessly or just make flash appearances: you need to stay on for the actual time it takes to play a real impact and build solid ties.

Although we hold distinct qualifications, we have the same passion for manual work and a determination to meet less privileged realities from close.

In a world that pushes us to work in order to consume at an ever faster pace, we are convinced that now more than ever it is vital to reinterpret the word work and give it an adequate definition:

To turn speed into slowness, and consumption into construction.
For Sonia and I, working means improving, ourselves and the environment where we live.

Craving as we are to start our journey, we want to meet new people, we want to breathe the smell of cities yet unknown, taste all food that exists, and learn ten more languages.
