Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To fend off boredom at all costs, and to encourage others to do the same.

ABOUT ME

I'm a 26-year-old writer. An old-fashioned pen-and-paper guy, more likely to be scribbling in a moleskin than updating a Facebook page. I like to spend quiet, hungover mornings with a French press and a Henry Miller novel. Maybe an occasional cigarette. Reading literature to rehabilitate the brain cells I damaged the night before.

For work, I write about the local art scene for a weekly newspaper in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The job has made me a man-about-town, providing me with a professional excuse to crawl from one gallery opening to the next each weekend, getting wonderfully drunk on free wine, pretensions, gossip, and the fashionable posing of the art crowd.

I love culture. Theater, basement punk shows, graffitied warehouses, late-night dance parties, movies, literature, poetry readings. But I also love sports, physical fitness, fast food, techno, and many other things that arty folks would probably frown upon. I don't like snobbery. And judging someone for not liking the same things that you like. That, in my opinion, is very mean.

After I graduated from college, I spent a year in the South of France, teaching English to middle school kids. It was a dream. An inspiring, devilishly romantic adventure that changed my life in so many extraordinary ways. I've been addicted to travel ever since. Experiencing other cultures always makes me feel tremendously proud of humanity.

Which I suppose is why I'm here. I love, love, love meeting new friends who are down for adventures. If you show me your country, I will happily show you mine.

PHILOSOPHY

We can be the bands we want to hear.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm brand new to the site. I'll be cruising around Europe this August and am looking to make new friends. So for the moment, I'm looking only to surf. But I'm in love with the concept of this site, and I'm eager to participate as fully as possible once I return to the US.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Watching paintings from Fria Kahlo, which had never been shown before in the US, come out of their crates at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. I was one of the first Americans to ever lay eyes on these historic works.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can teach you to juggle. I can give you exercise advice. I can tutor you in French or English.

I would love to learn to cook. Anything. Seriously, I'm a disaster in a kitchen. I would also love to learn more about wine and cheese.
