About Me

To be a good representative of the USA wherever I may roam.

Wow, what do I say about myself? If I say too many good things, it'll seem like I'm full of myself. If I'm too modest, it'll be boring...
Matt = easy to get along with, silly, a little bit cocky, always looking for fun new things to do and new adventures, an overall good-natured fellow.

I'm afraid this is a bit personal for a CS profile for me, but I wouldn't mind sharing over coffee the next time you're in the area!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Things that have always interested me: traveling, different cultures, learning, languages, people, and smiling.
Things that have begun to interest me since living in Japan: riding granny bikes and learning Chinese characters.

Music, Movies, and Books

A topic one could spend hours talking about...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Perhaps the most amazing thing I have been a part of was a Building Communities project in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Simply put we helped to rebuild homes for the Dalits who weren't receiving support from the Indian government because of the caste system. However, the love and energy of a people consumed in just two weeks was enough to touch a heart for a lifetime.

Teach, Learn, Share

One thing that fascinates me is the idea of expression, whether it be language, body language, gestures, random sounds, or all of the above. How a person expresses himself/herself is something that develops naturally over a number of years and depends on countless factors. Yet, as with other cultural norms you pick up on while you travel, expression is something else that you can pay attention to and mimic yourself during the learning process.
