I am passionate about life, and I'm curious to see what's around the corner. I have been described as mellow and outgoing; I'm a people person who enjoys company, but I don't get too crazy :-)
I am well read, mostly in the classical literature, and educated in music and art. I have a soft spot for Art Nouveau architecture, unfortunately not a whole lot of it in the US. I am an opera aficionado, and I play the piano. Not long ago I took up piano lessons again, and it's been extremely rewarding to continue learning as an adult! Music is a huge part of who I am.
I like skiing (especially if it's in the Alps!), ice skating, swimming, reading, going to concerts, cycling and hiking, swing dancing and Argentine tango. Seems like happiness is in the variety for me. I've been SCUBA diving for several years, and it's continuing to blow my mind! Diving in the the tropics is unbelievable, but I also dive in cold waters. I love love love to travel, I've already been to 30-some countries, and I hope to visit more.
I read Wikipedia, my work is cited on Wikipedia. I listen to NPR, I read the Economist, I watch the Daily Show; in other words, I try to stay connected with reality and to understand the world around us.
I am a very international person, and at times I have a hard time identifying where I'm from (which can be good and bad). I'm basically a 3rd culture kid.
Live a full life!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've been couchsurfing with passion for the last couple years! I've met some really incredible people whose generosity continues to amaze me, and I accept it very humbly. I would love to host, but unfortunately it may be difficult in my current living situation... hopefully some day.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: I have read many, and it's hard to pin-point a few, but some examples are - War and Peace, Solaris, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Hiram Key, Writing Box by M. Pavic - this one isn't available in English, I'm afraid. I often think about Swann's Way, something is magical about that book...
Movies: I watch dramas, melodramas, action movies, thrillers, comedies, foreign movies (although what's foreign anyways in today's world?). Ones that have a special place in my heart are Amadeus, Match-point, Before Sunset, Children of Paradise, and Impromptu.
Music: I will admit that I don't know the pop culture well, but sometimes I listen to what's on the radio. Musicians that do come to mind are - Celine Dion, Jack Johnson, Elton John, Pavarotti, Domingo, Caruso, Liszt, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Mahler and lots more...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Ice swimming! Also SCUBA diving in Komodo National Park and seeing the mysterious Komodo dragons (not underwater :)).
Teach, Learn, Share
I could talk about protein engineering and gene therapy. But if that's too boring I can instead talk about my encounters with Nobel Prize winners - I seem to attract them somehow.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can offer entertaining stories, I think :)
