My name is Nadine Foty and I am a DC native of Egyptian-Palestinian descent. I am passionate about teaching and feel inspired working with kids. I obtained my Bachelors from University of Michigan in History and then went on to do my Masters at University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). I want to explore the potential of living a life of true freedom and connection through establishing community and advocating for social justice through a lifestyle of travel. I am also a musician and aspiring actress and believe the arts are an integral part of change, self expression, and letting go.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After attempting to work in the 9 to 5 world I was constantly feeling like I had to choose between happiness and work. I finally decided to combine my love of travel and community based work by traveling and living in many different countries. I taught as a teacher in the United States but felt overworked, undervalued, and my passion for education was becoming depleted within a mainstream, corporate system that sees education as a buisness. I recently completed by TEFL certificate to teach english abroad, and want to move towards a nomadic lifestyle while simlatenously experiencing community globally. This may be overly optimistic but I am willing to try!
