Books: Magic realism (talk to me about Marquez and Rushdie), Beat (and 20th century American literature in general - Ginsberg, Steinbeck, Miller and Tennessee are particular heroes), Murakami, James Frey, Andres Neuman, anything historical/political and pointy-headed.

Movies: Black and white, 'the classics', silent, noir (talk to me about Sunset Boulevard...), David Lynch (...and Mulholland Drive), French, anything that captures the essence of the open road (Paris, Texas - I'm looking at you).
