About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Studying sound and enjoying the flow of life

ABOUT ME

I have a musical soul. I love music, film, art, cooking all sorts of dishes, going out for drinks, meeting new people and life. I'm excited to live in Edinburgh, but I really would like to see the Scottish, English, and Irish countrysides! I particularly like talking about music and aesthetic experiences. Might need a couch while searching for a place to live or while traveling through the UK. Nice to meet you!

PHILOSOPHY

The golden rule respectfully and responsibly should apply to every human no matter how you view yourself. I would like my life to be filled with laughter and art because these are the things that make me feel alive. "Tend your own garden" - Voltaire

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

If I live with you, I will pick up whatever musical instruments you have around and play them for you or with you (if you're into that of course)! I like to entertain and to laugh.

Music, Movies, and Books

Way too many, but I'll list a couple of my current trends.

Music - Post-rock bands/instrumental rock a la 'Do Make Say Think' 'Mogwai' 'Explosions in the Sky' 'Rachel's' etc., minimalist/ambient artists - 'Steve Reich' 'Arvo Part' 'Boards of Canada' 'Voices and Organs' 'Helios'

Movies - Depending on my mood I either like watching existential films about life, dreams, talking, and perceptions or really crappy action flicks with explosions.

Books - I read a lot of non-fiction dealing with music history, religious/atheistic studies, physics/environmental analysis. When I read fiction, my favorite authors include Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Graham Greene, and I like reading about folklore/mythology!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have drunk straight from a waterfall(s) in northern Iceland in the Westfjords. It was the cleanest, coldest, and purest water I have ever had next to filtered water from the streams of Colorado (i.e. Rocky Mountains). Not to mention the view from the top of the waterfall was an absolutely stunning sight down through an Icelandic valley!

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about the surf rock movements around the world from the 60's through the late 70's as well as the surf rock revivalists of the late 80's-2000's. In fact, almost all guitar driven rock has been somehow inspired by surf rock and jazz guitar playing due it's place as a significant melodic instrument in these genres. I could talk all day about it, but I'll leave it at that for now.
