About Me

Greetings from the North!
I live, work, and study in Fairbanks Alaska.

I can tell you about all things Arctic. I have have researched/lived in Russia, Iceland, Norway, Svalbard, Canada and now, Alaska.

I have also lived in 6 states in America. I can tel you about each region of the nation and some things about most major US cities and states.

Each person is born into a local cultural norm and have relativistic environments shaping them. Our language, nationality, and immediate family define us. Generally, the first rule in political science is that our geography sets our political tone. Traveling abroad showcases these
norms and contrast our local views with the world at large. Therefore, I am really interested in how these norms define our identity and the personal narratives we hold or purpose (the self-story). I enjoy exploring and hearing other perspectives and values not immediate to my own.

This gives me the opportunity in getting to "choose" what is most authentic, rather then just go along with my own relative norms and cultural bias. I suppose my philosophy is to imitate those identities I find most authentic rather just settle for. Maybe you will have some new way of thinking I’ve not considered?

Couchsurfing has been paramount in my development and has provided this platform for exploring others individual experiences. I especially admire cultural thinking outside of my national environment, since maybe I haven't thought of this perspective? So mainly, I hope to learn about how YOU think and see the world, while sharing my local perspective. Currently, this is my life in Fairbanks!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been hosting people who are interested in staying and touring around the United States, especially for international folks. Assisting individuals and groups that are usually on a world tour. I like to think that strangers are future friends, we are all so much alike! I enjoy each new perspective and journey. Traveling is paramount in exploring ourselves, humanity, and the planet as a whole - I wish to share that with you and most importantly, assist you on the way. In addition, its important to share each and exchange information with each other. Especially when we find ourselves in new and foreign lands. I can host, tour, and guide you in my relative area. I hope you will do the same for me. Couchsurfing has been a wonderful platform for bringing authentically new and unique perspectives into my life. Its personally given me a rare insight into humanity and modern times. I look forward to our future conversations!

I have been aware of the couch surfing scene for some time now, finally have the space and time to host travelers. CS has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to each experience!

Music, Movies, and Books

House, techno, Soul, Funk, Boogie, anything that makes you move and dance! But also just music to read-think or ponder to (BoC, Aphex Twin, ambient, etc)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in the northern most town in the world Longyearbyen on the Arctic island of Svalbard. I lived in Tromso Norway for year, which was incredible! I study permafrost and the carbon cycle, which is infinitely interesting! Okay, maybe just for me ;) I have visited China twice for science purposes, which was amazing! I have been to Siberia Russia every summer for 4 years! I also have visited most of Russia, which is crazy, since its MASSIVE. I can give you advice when you travel to Russia/Eastern Europe. Likewise, I have visited/lived in Scandinavia, so I know that culture pretty good (I am originally Danish-American).
