Обо мне
My name is Nicole. I'm 29 and use the pronouns she/her. I am a research masters student in religious studies. I have degrees in psychology, anthropology, and (almost) linguistics. And I would be interested in doing a PhD one day if I can land it.
I was born in America. My mom works in the hotel industry, my uncle is a pilot, and my other uncle works on cruise ships. My family lives all over the world so I traveled a lot growing up. But I think it's important to travel responsibly and sustainably. I'm really a fan of slow travel. Taking a lot of time in a place to get to know the people and culture. I think it's also important to create networks and return to the places that you've been and loved.
My current home is in Amsterdam. Ive lived there for the last 5 years and am happy to settle down a bit after a very busy childhood and adolescence. The first time I came to the Netherlands I fell absolutely in love with a place in a way that I never had with a place before. Am I very happy to show people around but only if they are really interested and respectful.
I haven't hosted hosted people before because I've always been in housing situations that have been pretty shitty. But now I live in a place where it will be okay and I plan to open my house to people this summer. I am so thankful for all of the people both on and off of couch surfing who have helped me out when I didn't have a house or when I was traveling. I've met a lot of great people and I would love to build long lasting friendships with people.
As an anthropologist i think it's important to understand different people's cultures and you can do that through travelling and meeting people in a way that you can't otherwise. I also see traveling becoming more difficult in a post(?) covid world and I would like to lower those barriers for people.
I live with quite a number of people in a diverse community setting. We really value people being social, friendly, generous and respectful. I live in a queer friendly house so it's important also to know this before coming. I live in a small room, so the sofa is in the same room as my bed. Very gezellig. And the kitchen, bathroom and showers are shared among 17 people. It's a bit industrial and used to be a squat until a company took it over to give homes to students and artists. There is an art studio, bar and club attached to the building.
I love outdoor activities. I like to hike, canoe, boulder. I also like to read, grow plants, write poetry and prose, drink beer on the terrace, make things with my hands. I'm not a good cook but I like to do it anyway. I am currently studying ancient Greek and maybe soon coptic. I'm also learning guitar but it's not going so well.
I'm hoping to go to Portugal, Greece and Italy this summer 🤞🤞🤞
