About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to make the most of my life by experiencing and enjoying things that "normal" people seem to find odd.

ABOUT ME

About three years, I saw a doctor and he diagnosed me with a mild case of wanderlust. Since then, I've been up for anything at just about any time. I can be cynical and sarcastic, and sometimes that's a bad thing or taken the wrong way, but it's usually out of humor. I also like to think I'm very observant.

I used to work the 9-5 grind in the corporate world until corporate down-sizing determined I wasn't needed anymore. Now I work for myself. I currently own a publishing company that produces a magazine/newsletter that focuses on the beverage industry in Pittsburgh. I'm also in the process of opening a small craft distillery.

PHILOSOPHY

I'll never again take myself too seriously.

All I need is enough for good food, good alcohol, a good view, and maybe someone to share it with.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really enjoy hearing and understanding the perspective of those who were raised in different places.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Incredible.

Interests

Beer. Good beer. Whiskey.

I've come to enjoy writing and would like to do more of it with personal experiences in the future.

I love doing anything involving water or the outdoors, whether free-diving, snorkeling, boating, or just plain swimming. I'm also trying to get into kayaking. I like hiking, as well.

And just about anything else someone is willing to share, I'll try.

Music, Movies, and Books

Almost any music that isn't country music.

I'm currently reading my way through all the works of Hunter S. Thompson. I also enjoy Nelson Algren and William S. Burroughs. Basically, anything pertaining to the underbelly of society fascinates me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Most amazing thing I've seen: Ring of Kerry, County Kerry, Ireland/Cliffs of Moher, County Claire, Ireland.

Amazing thing I've done: I spent a week sleeping on the beaches of the Exuma islands while I solo-kayaked 70 miles from Great Exuma to Staniel Cay (and most of the way back until I got caught in a storm).

Teach, Learn, Share

I've come to learn quite a lot about good beer and homebrewing over the last 5-6 years by reading and brewing. I also have a certification in distilling and distillery management, so I know how to make and sell whiskey.
