About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet people, share experiences, and see life from their perspective. I grew up in a conservative home, but have broadened my world view by education and travel. I have also run a construction business for 18 years in Princeton, NJ, so I can be helpful with practical things too.
ABOUT ME

I grew up in a large family. Received a good education by pioneering my own way. I've have traveled a little (for an American) and would like to do more. I find the vast majority of Americans dull and would like to meet interesting / smart, people both inside and outside the U.S.

I have an interest in religion, politics, education, books, the mundane.

Many of the people I've met via my business are extremely smart, well informed, and I tend to gravitate toward them or they to me. I'm not sure which. I know I don't know a lot and the more I know, the more I know is out there to know.

PHILOSOPHY

I don't really have one as life does not allow me one with which I'd feel as though I could sum it up in one creed or personal philosophy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've worked with churches (high schoolers), non-profits, and have helped out those older than I and have learned much through all these experiences.

Interests

Life in general, but enjoy going places, meeting interesting people. I keep up with the news although in the US, all the news seems predictable, but sometimes it isn't. I read, think, and talk to people.

When I am not working, I like to go to the gym. For cultural enrichment, I like to visit museums, attend plays, and read.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rory O'Shea was here is one movie I enjoyed which one of my brother's introduced me to. I find mystery movies/television programs interesting. I'm probably eclectic in my music tastes. I wish the US had more music from outside it's borders. It is hard to put down all the movies and books I've enjoyed and continue to enjoy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once in Colorado, I was traveling with my dad in late September when we started from the bottom of a mountain (by car) over a pass into another valley or safe area.

At the bottom of the mountain (and I wish I could remeber the name of the town), there were hot springs everywhere, the snow was coming down and as it landed upon the hot springs the steam rose up. The moon was full, so every detail could be seen.

My father drove to the top of the mountain and decided that would be a good place to stop for the night. Large snow flakes were falling all around us, there was a small tunnel to park inside, my dad was probably tired, and I was terrified.

I told my dad that I didn't think it was safe to stay there for the night as I was afraid we'd be stranded there for who knows how long. So dad carefully drove down the mountain (it might have been Red Mountain Pass, I'm not sure) until we came to a slightly less steep incline.

As we were approaching one very sharp corner, I felt we were going to fast and I told my dad to slow down. When he applied the brakes, we slide off the road into a huge snow bank. I jumped out of the car and the snow came up to my chest. My father tried to back the car out of the snow bank, but his wheels were turned, so I told him to straighten the wheels out and pushed the front of the car until we were out of the snow bank.

We went around one more sharp turn and as we passed the turn, there was snow on one side and no snow on the other side of the road. It was incredible to see the line where snow fell and where it stopped. Thanks to a full moon. I have other stories too.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm well-educated and have many practical skills. It's hard to sum it all up, but I'll try. I oversaw the well-being of my parents and siblings, attended college and grad school. Started my own business in construction and have many clients who make a difference in the US via, non-profits, education, business, policy advisors, etc.

I'd like to travel more to see the perspective of other people, maybe learn French, or just get Spanish down. Other languages would be good, but it's best to keep to reality since languages are hard to learn.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I don't mind providing money to help offset expenses. If you have something that needs to be fixed, I can give you advice. I'm good with kids.
