About Me

Hi everyone,

I'm a writer/blogger living and working in Toronto, Canada. I am an enthusiast for the great outdoors, and when I am not chained to a desk and computer I like to spend my more adventurous hours expanding my mental map and exploring the unknown corners of my city - usually on foot. I have never driven a car because I believe that life is best experienced outside of a box (even if it's air-conditioned), and I walk, bike and take public transit wherever I can in order to bring myself into close contact with new places and people.

Other tidbits:
- I believe in the oxford comma
- I love languages and will never shy away from learning a new word or phrase
- I can spend hours on end at a café - just give me a nice latte and some good weather for people watching

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Beyond my love affair with the written word, I love stories in all their forms, and my primary motivation to join couchsurfing is to meet new people and swap stories, ponder profound questions, and discuss life's mysteries with those whose life experiences differ from my own.

Interests

I love studying the culture, environment and geography of cities, and I'm interested in meeting people who share my devotion to green development and environmental responsibility - where do you think my love of walking, hiking and biking comes from?

Naturally, I enjoy literature, film and music, but I also enjoy the odd bit of philosophy, provided it's not of the nihilist variety.

I'm also a huge fan of food, as I find it's one of the most accessible portals into another culture. With a couple of exceptions (due to allergies) I'm usually willing to try anything.

Book: Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmm...not sure if this qualifies as 'amazing,' but I have stood on Canada's westernmost coast, acknowledging that the only think between me and Japan was 7,500 kilometres of uninterrupted ocean.

Teach, Learn, Share

Tell me about how locals live in your city! I am super-interested in how people view the city they live in, a perspective that a tourist could never truly hold.

Also, if you speak any interesting languages, I am always willing to learn some new words and phrases.

What I Can Share with Hosts

While I am not really an expert in any one thing, I would be happy to cook you dinner using some of my family's time-tested recipes. I also can teach you a bit of guitar if you fancy yourself a novice.
