Save the planet from capitalist destruction
I am a teacher, soon-to-be grad student, map maker, social change activist, and enjoyer of life. My interests are nature, science, history, politics and world events. I am planning a 2-month solo bike trip to the Pacific Northwest, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and Iowa this summer. I am 28 years old.
Ecosocialism. I believe that the capitalist system creates the need for endless growth, resource extraction, and waste creation, as well as exploiting virtually all of the human beings involved in the system as either wage slaves or slaveholders. It has caused endless alienation between human beings and their labor, each other, and the Earth. I believe the solution is to love each other and the planet as much as we can and work to build mass movements for total system change. In the words of Arundhati Roy, "Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I would like to visit a variety of couches on my summer bike trip, share food and make friends. When I get home, I plan to offer couch space to others to do the same.
On my last solo bike tour, in 2008, I met a guy in the food co-op in Menominee, WI, who offered me space in his apartment. I made dinner with him and his girlfriend, and we shared the most amazing stir fry and each others' great company for an evening. I have had other experiences, but this one stands out as a perfect example of what couch surfing should be.
Nature, science, history, politics, world events, maps, orienteering, exploring, hiking, biking, camping, running, cross-country skiing, teaching, learning, loving, and appreciating the majesty of the universe.
Music, Movies, and Books
Yes, all of those.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
3-week solo bike tour around Wisconsin. I've been to a number of other countries, and there are beautiful places in this world, but Wisconsin is special. Come to Wisconsin! Smell our dairy air!
Teach, Learn, Share
Given the right time and materials, I can teach people how to make the following things:
Jam and applesauce
Bike buckets (a cheap form of homemade pannier)
I'm usually up for dialogue on politics, philosophy, or random esoteric subjects, though I won't push it on anyone. Silence and superficial conversation are all good too.
