Looking for the road less travelled
I am a 26 year geordie from Gateshead in the north east of England. I left my home town in 2002 to go to university in Liverpool, spend a year in France, some time in Brussels and several years working with IT in London.
Now with all that out of the way i find myself travelling the world with my old school pal Kris until December 2010 taking in parts of South America, South and Eastern Africa, India, South Asia, China and Japan.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
It has all of a sudden dawned on us during the early parts of this trip that without doubt the best potential experiences we can have this year will be through meeting people who really know a town, city or country rather than doing what the Lonely Planet or Rough Guide travels guides tell us to do. We have enjoyed meeting fellow backpackers so far but the opportunity to meet and stay with locals is one we are extremely keen take part in. What better way to get to know somewhere properly? We only recently learned about Couch Surfing through a fellow traveller and think it is a fantastic concpet.
The closest thing i have probably experienced to couch surfing is spending a year in France as an Erasmus student where i spent the whole year socialising with people from all around the world in a foreign country now i know that couch surfing exists this gives me an opportunity to continue that
I am football and cycling enthusiast with a keen interest in discovering all about new cultures far removed from my own, i often find this is best done on a night out whilst sharing a drink or two. I am interested in speaking french, discovering new cuisines, travelling the world, sharing experiences and enjoying a laugh over a beer or two.
