ABOUT ME

Officially I'm a media person - I've worked as a journalist and a helper at radio stations for a while. What I really do is seek out cool stuff and share it with as many people as I can. I'm a storyteller looking to put my stuff out in public. I'm also really into things that people make - if you make a zine, or music, or are a filmmaker, or an anything-maker, I'm fascinated by you and totally dig your stuff - provided it's good.

I've become fascinated by zines recently for some reason, though I've never made one. I'm also into old genre fiction stories, cool music and neat places. I also have a sudden desire to learn about bookbinding for some reason.

There are a lot of things I want to start working on with other people, so if you're a filmmaker, or a publishing person, or a person in advertising or TV, I'll send you my crazy ideas all the time even if you don't think they'll work.

I'm always looking for new and interesting things. Recently I've been collecting a lot of 70s European R&B, light orchestral music and dixieland jazz, as well as production music used in cartoons. I've also gotten into really really old records.

As far as movies, I'm a sucker for genre movies and b-movies, though I am trying to raise my tastes and enrich myself with the great movies.

I'm trying to raise my taste in books, I really am. There are a lot of books that are on my to-read list, but for the moment, I'm content with my genre fiction, especially from the Victorian era and the age of pulp magazines. I also have some Joseph Campbell and collections of older literature like the Arabian Nights, which I plan on doing a project on. I'm on the lookout for collections of older things like medieval poetry or attempts to recreate it, or ancient legends (Norse Sagas) or Eastern mythological tales.

Going to Tibet. That place is like another planet. The road from Kathmandu to the border was awe-inspiring, if terrifying.

I've worked as a journalist at an Indian newspaper, an Irish music magazine, 2 UK cultural/lit magazines, a Nepali newspaper and a Chinese blog. I've got more places on my to-do list.

I can't name anything specific that I have special knowledge of, but I've been mining my weird interests and chasing odd rabbit holes and writing up the results for guys like 3:AM magazine and Spike magazine for a while now.
